Trader Joe's Teeny Tiny Maple Butter Tarts are exactly what they sound like: small, buttery, maple-filled tarts that are a cross between a mini pecan pie and a Canadian butter tart, minus the nuts and corn syrup. They're found in the freezer section and come fully baked, needing just a quick warm-up to bring them back to life.

Each bite-sized tart has a tender, flaky crust and a gooey, maple-forward filling that's rich and buttery without being overly sweet. They're about two bites each, making them perfect for dessert boards, holiday buffets, or anytime you just want "a little something sweet."

Review

These Teeny Tiny Maple Butter Tarts are one of those desserts that remind you why Trader Joe's does frozen pastries so well. They're easy, consistent, and just fancy enough to pass off as homemade.

Out of the box, they look adorable: little golden crusts with glossy, amber centers. I baked mine exactly according to the directions, and the results were on point. The filling set perfectly, the edges browned just right, and they looked like something you'd proudly serve at a fall brunch.

The flavor? Think pecan pie filling, but stripped down to the essentials. There's no corn syrup heaviness, no nuts to distract from the buttery maple goodness - just pure, gooey sweetness. The maple flavor shines here without being cloying, and the texture is smooth with that signature "just firm enough to hold" custard feel.

The crust is tender and buttery, very similar to the one on Trader Joe's Mini Quiche Duo, which makes sense since they share that same flaky pastry shell. It's delicate, not dry, and holds up well to the sweet filling.

That said, while these are undeniably tasty, they didn't crack my personal "top tier" dessert list. They're solid, a good treat to keep on hand for guests or when you want something quick - but not quite craveable enough to dethrone the Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches or Chocolate Lava Cakes in my freezer dessert hall of fame.

Still, if you love maple and buttery textures, this is an easy win - no fuss, no thawing overnight, and no regrets (unless you eat the entire box, which… fair game).

FAQs about Trader Joe's Teeny Tiny Maple Butter Tarts

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

Are these the same as butter tarts from Canada?

They're similar, but lighter. The filling has that same buttery, sweet flavor but skips the raisins or nuts you might find in traditional versions.

Do they need to be refrigerated?

They're sold frozen and should be kept that way until you're ready to bake.

Can you microwave them?

Technically, yes, but they're best from the oven or air fryer for that flaky crust.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Teeny Tiny Maple Butter Tarts are the dessert equivalent of a cozy flannel blanket: warm, comforting, and not trying too hard. They're not flashy, but they get the job done. A satisfying little bite of buttery maple sweetness that's ready in minutes. Worth a try but not necessarily a stock up worthy item.
