My Blueberry Scones with Lemon Glaze recipe is quick, easy, moist and uses lemon to add another dimension of flavor. This is a perfect breakfast, brunch, or dessert item to share or to freeze for fresh scones in the morning. These are delicious with both fresh blueberries and frozen blueberries. I’ve included lots of ways of adapting this recipe to make it even more delicious.…
The pros: Trader Joe’s Vanilla Joe Joe’s will remind you of a more familiar Keebler cookie, but with a more natural vanilla flavoring and appearance.
The cons: The flavor here might be more adult friendly than kid friendly. I brought this in to share with my students and the kids were a little bit polarized by it. They either loved it or hated it.
The verdict: …
Salad can be so boring and predictable. When I think of salad my mind goes in one of two directions: fruit or the leafy green stuff. Many fruit salads that I’ve had are just ok. Very few leave me refreshed or wanting much more. Especially the canned variety. When I opened a recent copy of Food Network’s magazine I saw a recipe that looked easy and caught my eye, Citrus Vanilla Salad….
Craving chocolate and crunch at the same time? Love chocolate lava cake and pillowy soft macarons? Look no further than Trader Joe’s Molten Chocolate Macarons. You get two large macarons that go into your microwave. It’s the taste of a large macaron and a center that will remind you of a chocolate lava cake….
Even breakfasts can be a lazy event for me. I want something filling and not something that will cost me an hour workout later in the day. If you enjoy oatmeal in the morning and enjoy the texture of a risotto you’ll probably like Trader Joe’s Frozen Steel Cut Oatmeal. For $1.69 you are paying for comfort of knowing oatmeal with texture (unlike instant oatmeal) is ready in under 4 minutes or less. There is no way to get steelcut oatmeal ready in that amount of time. It’s still less than what you might pay at your local McDonalds and for far less in the calorie count. Don’t let the picture on the package fool you either, you’ll have to add your own brown sugar and fruit if you so choose to….
Below is sectional list and an alphabetical list of all the Trader Joe’s Reviews on this site so far. It should be in order based on the name that appears on the packaging. If you don’t see it, use the search feature. Feel free to comment on product you’d like to see me do a review on and I’ll add it to my list of items to try! I’m not affiliated with Trader Joe’s. Some ladies are excited to bring home a brown bag from Bloomingdale’s. This Betty gets excited when the brown bag is from Trader Joe’s….
There are times company comes by expectedly or without any warning. Whatever the case is, there are handy items to keep in the freezer if you are just having a cup of tea and want something sweet. Be warned, if you are not familiar with macarons, they are light and somewhat sweet, they are not made with regular flour like most cookies, they are made with almond flour. So if you have a nut allergy, steer clear….
Deep fried Oreos move over. If you can get to a local Trader Joe’s an locate Macarons in the freezer section, this is an easy recipe for Deep Fried Macarons. It’s also more affordable as you can pick up a dozen macarons at Trader Joes for about $5. Some places charge something close to that for one macaron. The principles apply here as in deep fried oreos. Yes, I know I posted a macaron recipe on this site already. If you don’t have hours worth of time or don’t want to deep fry your hard work it is totally a Bettyfied way of going about things. Judgement free zone here, short cuts are absolutely acceptable. Trader Joe’s has a variety of flavors ready to go: Vanilla and Chocolate, Mango, the six variety pack, or molten chocolate. For this experiment I used the Vanilla and Chocolate variety….
Is there anything that says summer more than peaches? Wonderful on their own, they can be even better if you follow the recipe below.
This recipe can be eaten alone or with something like ice cream. Or as a topping to waffles. Could this be enjoyed over pancakes? Yes indeed….
Chocolate for some people is a dietary requirement. This is both rich and light in one delicious recipe….
Summer. How we long for you, your longer days, just not the oppressive heat. What do many of us do to cool down? Eat ice cream. There is nothing more spectacular than soft serve ice cream, want that texture? Eat is straight from the ice cream machine. Want hard ice cream, just freeze it after the ice cream machine is done….
Some days you have bad days. The type of day that makes you say “Why did I get out of bed?” Days were everything turns to mush. I mean everything you touch breaks, shatters, curses at you, bites, or just makes you question every decision you’ve ever made in your life. Those are the days I realize I need dessert. Unfortunately, I don’t have many desserts just laying around. A salad is not going to cut it today….
If there was ever a foodie Home Depot, it would be called Sur La Table. I confess it is the one store I have a weakness for. Some women struggle with going into Target and walking out with numerous unplanned purchases. I have the same struggle, but it’s at Sur La Table. Yes, it could be so very easy to not walk in. But I have to. You see Sur La Table has Cooking Classes. If you struggle to boil water or just want to learn, they have a calendar set up (and even occasionally offer sales) just with classes. If there were just one class I would recommend everyone to take, it’s the Knife Skills class. After that feel free. You’ll walk away with solid recipes or the knowledge that you should not try this at home (Yes, sushi class I am speaking to you). I’ve taken more than a dozen Sur La Table Classes. They’ve all been excellent….
Damn you Starbucks. Making people all pumpkin crazy. It’s gotten so bad that almost everything in starting Labor Day weekend will start transforming into pumpkin. Again, not all of us have Starbucks budgets, but you do have to admit their stuff is pretty good. This is a great recipe fresh out of the oven, or one to bring to work if you can’t eat all of it at once. I recommend bringing it to work as well. After a day or two, the quality one this one heads downhill fast. It doesn’t have the normal fat content that most scones do, so as long as its warm, you really won’t notice the difference. After 48 hours it will give you the confession of staleness. Be a Betty and please share with your coworkers, friends or whoever is around. They’ll thank you for being a friend.…
Some of my cookbooks are ones that will be cherished and unopened on a coffee table in the house. Others look like the have waged kitchen warfare. In addition to the iconic Betty Crocker books that line my bookshelf, this is one book that deserves to also be a “Betty.” A funny story about this one:
One Christmas, I asked my then boyfriend for a series of cookbooks as a gift suggestion. One of which included Gina Homolka’s The Skinnytaste Cookbook. Upon opening the gift it was difficult for my then boyfriend (now husband) to not see the joy in my face. With a big “Thank you” he promptly replied, “I’m glad your happy, just don’t make me any of that crap.”…
