I can't think of a candy that evokes more of a strong reaction than Candy Corn. It's a love it or hate it type of candy. I enjoy it in small doses but don't enjoy the waxy texture.

Taste and review

But if you hand me a couple of pieces, I won't turn you down. But there are a number of people out there who will be more than happy to tell you much they despise this. You can read more of the love/hate/origins of candy corn here.

But since last year I tried the Pumpkin Spice Caramel corn, I figured this is something new to try while I anxiously await a giant pumpkin display pointing me to all the yummy seasonal offerings from now until New Year.

But in the meanwhile, this bag is not for everyone. Nope. Not a chance this will have universal appeal. Much like Trader Joe's summer seasonal Popcorn in a Pickle, this is meant for a special person. If you truly feel that candy corn's rightful place is in the trash can, then this product is not for you.

It tastes just like candy corn. And it makes sense. Candy corn is basically pure sugar. To throw that same flavored sugar (whatever random nondescript flavor candy corn happens to be), isn't a stretch of the imagination.

The biggest difference here is that you'll miss out on that not-so-pleasant waxy mouthfeel. Which in my book isn't a bad thing at all. There is the classic color combination on top of mushroom-shaped popcorn. It left me saying, "Wow. That really tastes like candy corn."

Overall

For $1.99 you are getting the classic taste of the tricolored confection on popcorn. Just minus the waxy feel. By no means is this for everyone. But if you know you like the peculiar taste of candy corn, then feel free to add this to your list of seasonal treats.

And if you missed out on this at your local Trader Joe's, then you can look on Amazon for this through third-party sellers.

Would I buy this again? This is a seasonal item that it fun to try once a year, but I don't see myself buying this again.

I applaud TJ's for taking a risk. Good thing no pieces of actual candy corn is blended in there. TJ's might drop in their brand of candy corn but who knows? Good thing it is seasonal

Hey Alek! I applaud them too. They release a ghost pepper maple syrup. Now that is a risk for all involved. A lot of this stuff it fun to have like once a year. Thanks as always for stopping by!

I find the thought of this disgusting LOL. That said strangely enough every year I still want to have a taste of a few pieces of candy corn on their own.

Hey Dag! I'm the same way. I'm pretty sure I've never bought a big bag to chow down on either. It's a fun try, but I didn't keep going back to it much like the candy corn candy.

I don't know who at corporate TJs does the tastings, but so far I am not loving most of the Fall products. In fact, today I am taking back to the store 2 new products - Apple Caramel Slab Pie and the Carrot Cake Spread. The Slab Pie is bland and not worth the calories. The Carrot Cake Spread is inedible. I thought that the Carrot Cake Spread would be fantastic but I could not even eat a quarter teaspoon of it! Good thing TJs has such a great return policy.

Hey H M! Thanks so much for the heads up. I grabbed the Carrot Cake Spread too. I was deeply hoping it would be like cookie butter but as carrot cake. It's totally not. It's a weird mutant jam! Thanks so much for the heads up!

Maybe they wanted venture out beyond the pumpkin craze. Sometimes it a experimental phase and it nice that TJ's return policy is awesome.

Hey Alek! Experimental is good. But every now and again you get a product that makes you say, "who approved this?"

Wow I haven't even seen the carrot cake spread. In theory it sounds yummy. What were the issues with it?

Hey Dag! It sounded yummy. I too wasn't a fan. More to be posted in a couple days. I was hoping for carrot cake like cookie butter. It's a weird raisiny jam.

It was very sour, not tart, but sour, almost vinegary. Almost like a chutney. It did not taste like carrot cake all. The label says "like carrot cake without the eggs and flour". I had expectations of a sweet, coconutty product. I was wrong. But you may like it, so I encourage you to try it - with extremely low expectations. You can always return the jar back to the store.

Hey HM! Your assessment is spot on. I tried it. Holy cow, was I disappointed! Mine might end up going back too.
