The pros:  Trader Joe's Crunchy Nutty Rice Bites might remind you of a more adult flavored Rice Krispies treat, just better. Gluten free and kosher if that is a priority for you. Bag can be resealed so you don't feel obligated to eat the whole thing.

The cons: Nothing really jumps out.

The verdict:  As a kid (and adult for that matter) I've always remained fond of Rice Krispies Treats. They were sweet but not as sugary as other treats out there. Best of all they filled you up and as a kid they were a good item to barter with.

Trader Joe's has never liked to leave anything alone. They always want to play around with the classics. When I opened up the bag I realized just how different these were.

Let's start with the most obvious difference: size. Usually, the traditional cereal treats are covered in a marshmallow and butter glaze that binds them together then individually wrapped to prevent sticking. That package is usually wrapped in a pretty foil wrapper and measures in a size that can be measured in inches. That's not the case here. These bites are literally just that. They are all just one single bite big. Or small.

Within each bite of these bites, these are flavors that you would never get in a regular cereal treat. You have brown rice cereal, regular rice cereal, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, nuts and quinoa in addition to the sugary concoction that keeps this glued together. Each bite is a little sweet, nutty, salty, and crunchy. The genius in this product is its size. You would not want to have a bite bigger than what they are giving you here.

For $2.99 this is a really solid choice in snacking. It satisfied my desire for sweet, salty and crunchy. Not sure if this is a snack that the kids would enjoy, but it is one this adult enjoyed. Best of all, there was no desire to eat the whole bag in one sitting. They were good, but they were meant to satisfy. Worth picking up and giving them a try.

Would I buy this again?  Yes. Trader Joe's Crunchy Nutty Rice Bites aren't quite like Rice Krispies Treats, but they almost seem improved with a more adult flavor.
