Trader Joe's Cranberry Sauce

Trader Joes Cranberry Sauce

The pros:  Trader Joe's Cranberry Sauce is a nice balanced mix of what most might want when cranberry sauce is served: it's halfway between being the jelly that comes from a can with some textural aspects of a cranberry relish. This was a good compromise between the two worlds.

The cons:  It's a seasonal so if you like this, you might want to stock up until next year. My Trader Joe's ran out shortly after Thanksgiving.

Review of Trader Joe's Almond Croissants

Taste and Texture

Trader Joe's Almond Croissants deliver on all fronts: they're flaky, buttery, and filled with a luscious almond cream that strikes a perfect balance between sweet and nutty. The golden crust is delightfully crisp, while the interior is soft and slightly chewy, with just the right amount of filling.

The almond topping adds both texture and flavor, complementing the filling and pastry layers beautifully. These croissants taste just like something you'd find at a high-end bakery, making them a standout product in Trader Joe's frozen section.

Convenience and Value

At $4.99, these croissants are a fantastic value, especially considering the quality. While they require overnight proofing, the process is hands-off and ensures the best possible rise and texture. The baking time is short, so you can enjoy fresh croissants without a lengthy wait in the morning.

How to Prepare Trader Joe's Almond Croissants

Baking Instructions

  1. Proof the Dough: Remove the croissants from the box and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let them proof overnight at room temperature (6-8 hours) until they double in size.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F.
  3. Bake: Bake the croissants for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Cool and Serve: Allow the croissants to cool slightly before serving for the best texture.

Air Fryer Instructions for Trader Joe's Almond Croissants

  1. Proof the Croissants:
    • Remove the croissants from the box and place them on parchment paper or a non-stick tray.
    • Let them proof overnight at room temperature (6-8 hours) until they double in size.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 330°F (adjust depending on your air fryer model).
  3. Prepare for Baking:
    • Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
    • Place the proofed croissants in the basket, ensuring they are not touching to allow for proper airflow.
  4. Bake:
    • Air fry the croissants at 330°F for 10-12 minutes, checking for golden brown tops. If needed, add 1-2 extra minutes for full doneness.
  5. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the croissants to cool slightly before serving to achieve the best texture.

Tips for Air Frying Trader Joe's Almond Croissants:

  • Keep an eye on the croissants during the last few minutes of cooking to avoid over-browning.
  • If your air fryer runs hot, consider lowering the temperature to 320°F and extending the cook time slightly.

The air fryer method gives the croissants a beautifully crispy exterior and saves some time on preheating compared to a traditional oven

Comparing Trader Joe's Croissants

As of the time of updating this review, there are currently three choices for croissants: mini, chocolate, and almond.

The mini croissants-

  • have had the recipe changed several times over the year and have had mixed feelings from people who have commented on this blog
  • come 8 in a package

The chocolate croissants-

  • are the most similar to the almond croissants
  • don't leak the way the almond croissants do

The directions don't mention this but you will get the best results if you make sure they double in size.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Almond Croissants

Below are some questions that you might have about this product:

How much are Trader Joe's 4 Almond Croissants?

The package costs $4.49 for four almond croissants.

How do you proof Trader Joe's Almond Croissants?

Leave them out at room temperature overnight. They should at least double in size before baking. If not

Why didn't my croissants proof?

This can mean either it is too cool where you are or you haven't given them enough time. You can proof these in the oven if your oven has a proofing setting which keeps the oven between 70-115F degrees.

How long does it take to make these?

After proofing, you'll need at least 20 minutes to bake and 10 minutes to cool. Don't try to eat these right out of the oven as the filling will be bubbling hot. Since the filling is sugary this will burn you.

Do Trader Joe's Almond Croissants leak?

Of all the varieties I've tried, Trader Joe's Almond Croissants have a filling that tends to leak. This is normal. Don't touch the filling immediately after it coming out of the oven.

Trader Joe's 4 Almond Croissants out of the box
Don't let the small size fool you. Over night these will easily double in size.

Final Thoughts on Trader Joe's Almond Croissants

Trader Joe's Almond Croissants are a standout in the frozen aisle, offering bakery-quality pastries that are easy to prepare at home. With their flaky layers, sweet almond filling, and golden almond topping, these croissants are a treat worth savoring. While the overnight proofing requires a bit of planning, the payoff is well worth it.

At $4.99, these croissants deliver exceptional value and flavor, making them a must-try for pastry lovers. Whether you're treating yourself or serving them to guests, Trader Joe's Almond Croissants are a delightful addition to any table.

If you add an egg wash before baking you will get a shiny exterior to your croissant. I do that mostly for presentation purposes.
