Trader Joe's Mussels in a White Wine Sauce

An unopened box of Trader Joes Steamed Mussels

I love seafood. I mean love. I'll even eat mediocre seafood. This, I won't eat again. It was a pain in the ass. The sauce was like drinking ocean water. I so very rarely throw out seafood. I did not finish this and I would not ever buy this again. I'll clean my own mussels for now on. For $3.99 I could have cooked a whole big bag of mussels. One of the least pleasant things I've eaten is Trader Joe's Mussels in a White Wine Sauce.

Pros:  You aren't cleaning your own mussels. The box is pretty.

Cons:  So many. Here we go: vacuum sealed bag made it hard, I couldn't tell if they were open or shut, some were broken, bag kept floating to the surface, sauce was painfully salty. I wanted to like this so very much. This was an ugly Betty.

The verdict:

I would not buy this again under any circumstances. Dearest Trader Joes- This is wasting valuable freezer space. Please make it go away.

Here is the run down of pictures and I'm not even going to explain all of them:

Trader Joe's Mussels in a White Wine Sauce
While it may look good. Looks are deceiving. Some cracked shells, so hard to tell if they were opened in a vacuum sealed bag. That bowl actually is full of pasta. The liquid drown the pasta and the flavor made it inedible.

Don't buy this. This is good Trader Joe's freezer space that is wasted.

Trader Joe's Mini Cinnamon Sugar Churros

Trader Joe's Mini Cinnamon Sugar Churros

I love a good dessert item from Trader Joe's. And they do have some really good desserts to choose from. So I figured I was safe picking Trader Joe's Mini Cinnamon Sugar Churros up. It's both dessert and it's fried. Something Trader Joe's has seemed to have mastered in the freezer aisle. While this was good. There is a similar snack that I actually enjoy more.

The Pros:  Cinnamon flavor, nice thick churros.

The Cons:  240 calories per serving.

The Verdict:  ...

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Rolls with Pumpkin Spice Icing

Trader Joes Pumpkin Rolls

The pumpkin season is here. Here is another pumpkin review in the refrigerated section next to the biscuits and cinnamon rolls.

The pros:  Strongest pumpkin flavor is in the icing. So you can choose how much pumpkin you want.

The cons:  The only real pumpkin flavor that comes through is in this is in the icing. The roll itself tastes like a regular cinnamon roll with food coloring. A bit pricey for $3.99 for 5 rolls. If you truly love this item, then you'll want to buy a few as this is a seasonal offering.

The verdict:  ...

Trader Joe’s Burrata, Prosciutto & Arugula Flatbread Review: A Fancy Pizza Shortcut?

Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto and Arugula Flatbread box on a dark wood surface

Trader Joe's has no shortage of frozen flatbreads and pizzas, but the Burrata, Prosciutto & Arugula Flatbread been a repeat purchase in my household. With toppings that sound straight from a trendy café, this frozen flatbread combines burrata cheese, salty prosciutto, and peppery arugula-all for under $6.

It comes frozen and bakes in about 10 minutes, making it a tempting option for a quick weeknight meal, fancy lunch, or shareable appetizer. But does it live up to the expectations its upscale ingredients create?

Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto and Arugula Flatbread
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

I'll start by saying this flatbread looks beautiful coming out of the oven. The crust crisps up nicely, the melted cheese has a satisfying pull, and the prosciutto gets just enough crisp around the edges. It feels like something you could serve at a casual gathering with wine or as an upgraded solo dinner.

That said, there are a few things to know before tossing this in your cart. First, the burrata. While it sounds luxurious, it's not quite the creamy, oozing center you get from fresh burrata. Instead, it's more like pockets of mild, melty mozzarella-style cheese. Still tasty, just not quite what burrata lovers might expect.

The prosciutto is flavorful and salty, and it crisps up nicely during baking. I liked that it wasn't overly greasy and didn't overwhelm the rest of the flatbread. The arugula comes separately in a little pouch that you add after baking. It's a nice touch and brings some brightness, but it's also a bit sparse. I ended up adding a handful of my own fresh arugula for more balance and bite.

The crust is thin but not too thin, crisp, and holds up well. It has that rustic, almost wood-fired vibe and isn't overly doughy. I appreciated that it didn't get soggy beneath the cheese and meat.

All in all, I thought it was a solid frozen flatbread with a slightly elevated flavor profile. It's not restaurant-level, but for something that bakes in 10 minutes from frozen, it punches above its weight.

Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto and Arugula Flatbread ingredients

Cooking Instructions:

Oven Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Remove flatbread from packaging (leave arugula aside).
  3. Place flatbread directly on center rack or a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 12 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is crisp.
  5. Remove from oven and top with prosciutto.
  6. Slice and serve.

Optional: Drizzle with balsamic glaze or a touch of olive oil to elevate.

Air Fryer Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F for a few minutes.
  2. Place the Flatbread in the Basket: Carefully place the flatbread into the air fryer basket, ensuring it lays flat and doesn't fold or bend.
  3. Cook: Air fry for 6-8 minutes, checking for a golden-brown crust and bubbling cheese. Keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't overcook or burn, as air fryers cook faster than traditional ovens.
  4. Add the Prosciutto: Once the flatbread is cooked, remove it from the air fryer and add the pieces of the Prosciutto on top.

Cooking the flatbread in an air fryer can give you a crispier crust in less time compared to a conventional oven. It's a great option if you're looking for a faster way to enjoy this delicious flatbread.

If you have a smaller air fryer or it doesn't fit, slice it in half to ensure even cooking.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto & Arugula Flatbread

The following are commonly asked questions about this product:

Is the burrata real burrata?

Not exactly. It's more like a mozzarella blend that mimics burrata texture when melted. Don't expect the creamy center of fresh burrata.

Is the arugula fresh or frozen?

It's frozen on top of the flatbread

Can it be made in an air fryer?

Yes, but you may need to cut it in half to fit. Reduce time slightly and watch for crisping.

How big is the flatbread?

It's about 11 inches long, enough for 1-2 people depending on appetite.

Pairing Suggestions

To create a full meal experience with Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto, and Arugula Flatbread, consider these pairing suggestions:

  1. Salads:
A simple salad of mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette or a lemony arugula salad would complement the richness of the flatbread while adding freshness and acidity to the meal.
  2. Wine:
Pair this flatbread with a light, crisp white wine like a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. If you prefer red, a light-bodied Pinot Noir would work well with the salty prosciutto and creamy burrata.
  3. Appetizers:
Start your meal with light antipasto options such as marinated olives, artichoke hearts, or a Caprese salad to stay in line with the Italian-inspired theme of the flatbread.
  4. Dessert:
Finish your meal with something light and refreshing, such as a bowl of fresh berries with whipped cream or a scoop of lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate.

FAQs

The following are frequently asked questions about this product:

Is Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto, and Arugula Flatbread gluten-free?

No, this flatbread is made with wheat-based dough and is not gluten-free. However, Trader Joe's offers other gluten-free pizza options if needed.

Can I add extra toppings to the flatbread?

Absolutely! You can customize this flatbread with additional toppings like fresh cherry tomatoes, shaved Parmesan, or a drizzle of balsamic glaze to enhance the flavor and make it more filling.

How should I store leftovers?

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven or toaster oven to restore the crispiness of the crust.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Burrata, Prosciutto & Arugula Flatbread is one of those freezer finds that makes you feel like you're eating something a little fancier without the price tag or prep. While it's not a perfect recreation of what you'd find at a wood-fired pizzeria, it checks a lot of boxes for flavor, texture, and convenience. Add a bit more arugula, maybe a drizzle of balsamic, and you've got a solid weeknight meal or crowd-pleasing appetizer that feels elevated without the effort.

Trader Joe's Uncured Black Forest Bacon Review: When Regular Bacon Just Won’t Cut It

Trader Joe's Black Forrest Bacon

Bacon lovers, rejoice! Trader Joe's Uncured Black Forest Bacon is here to elevate your breakfast game-or any meal. This bacon offers a balanced blend of smoky, sweet, and savory flavors, making it a versatile addition to your kitchen. Whether you're cooking up a classic breakfast, adding a flavorful punch to a salad, or just indulging in a bacon snack, this product promises to deliver. Let's dive into what makes this bacon special, along with tips on how to prepare and enjoy it.

Trader Joe's Uncured Black Forrest Bacon

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What is Trader Joe's Uncured Black Forest Bacon?

Trader Joe's Uncured Black Forest Bacon is a thick-cut, premium bacon that's been naturally smoked and sweetened with a touch of brown sugar. Unlike traditional cured bacon, this version is uncured, meaning it's made without the use of sodium nitrate or other synthetic preservatives. The "Black Forest" label hints at its inspiration from the famous German Black Forest ham, although this bacon is more about the sweet and smoky profile rather than replicating the exact taste of the ham. At around $4.99 per 12-ounce package, it's slightly more expensive than Trader Joe's other bacon offerings, but fans argue that its unique flavor makes it worth the splurge.

Taste and Texture

Trader Joe's Black Forest Bacon offers a delicious combination of flavors-smoky, sweet, and savory with a subtle hint of brown sugar. The smoke is not as intense as that found in some applewood-smoked bacons, making it more versatile for different dishes. The bacon crisps up nicely when cooked, providing a satisfying crunch without losing its meaty texture. Some might find the sweetness a bit unexpected, but it adds a layer of complexity that pairs well with both savory and sweet dishes.

    • Cook until the bacon reaches your desired level of crispiness, flipping occasionally.

  4. Sweet and Savory:
Pair the bacon with pancakes or waffles drizzled with maple syrup for a delightful contrast of flavors.

Food Pairings:

  • Egg Dishes: Bacon pairs well with any egg dish, from scrambled to poached.
  • Cheese Plates: Add to a charcuterie or cheese plate with sharp cheddar or creamy Brie to balance the richness.

Conclusion

Trader Joe's Uncured Black Forest Bacon is a delightful addition to any bacon lover's repertoire. Its unique flavor profile of smoky, sweet, and savory makes it stand out from the crowd. While it's a bit pricier than other options, the quality and taste make it worth the extra cost. Whether you're cooking up breakfast or adding it to your favorite dishes, this bacon is sure to impress. Just remember to grab a pack the next time you're at Trader Joe's.
