Trader Joe's Antioxidant Facial Serum Review: Glow Big or Glow Home

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Antioxidant Facial Serum

Meet your glow-on-the-go hero. Trader Joe's Antioxidant Facial Serum steps into your skincare lineup, promising brighter, bouncier, and more protected skin without the fuss. It feels lightweight and fresh and smells faintly like a spa escape in a bottle. But does it really make your face feel fabulous or is it just empty glow promises?

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Antioxidant Facial Serum
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

This serum comes in a convenient 1-ounce airless pump bottle. It's packed with vitamins A, B5, C, and jojoba oil. Recommended for morning or evening use, it promises to hydrate, calm, and shield skin from free-radical damage.

First pump and you get that light hydrating texture that slides smoothly into the skin without any tackiness. No sticky after-feel, just a soft cushion of moisture.

The scent is all clean and minimal. Not flowery, not synthetic, just a gentle botanical note that perks your senses without demanding attention.

In terms of performance, it delivers real hydration and a subtle skin-smoothing effect. I use it before moisturizer and foundation, and it feels like my makeup is putting on a cozy little nightgown. After a few weeks, my skin looked more even and less splotchy. Hello, brightness.

I also noticed by day two that dryness from central heating seemed less intense. That's when I realized this serum isn't just all talk, it actually delivers daily comfort. But if you're chasing serious acne picks or wrinkle-erasing miracles, you'll need stronger formulations. This one's more glow guardian than anti-aging hero.

In short this serum feels like a refreshing dip in a botanical pond. It supports your skin routine in a solid and satisfying way. It also can be used under makeup like a decent primer.

Non Food Items, Trader Joe's Trader Joes, Trader Joes Review

Trader Joe's Light Ice Cream

Two unopened containers of Trader Joe's Light Ice Cream

Maybe this has happened to you: You are having a bad day, so you reach for a tub of ice cream. You sit, you watch some TV or Netflix. Before you know it, the container of ice cream has suddenly become empty. This was probably the inspiration for light ice cream. And now Trader Joe's Light Ice Cream has entered the market of light ice creams with containers that are under 400 calories should you find yourself consuming the whole thing.

Two unopened containers of Trader Joe's Light Ice Cream. Cookies and cream on top and chocolate peanut butter is on bottom

Taste

And light ice cream is a thing. We've seen the popularity of Halo Top among other brands. All promising you can indulge without the guilt.

But I can't tell you how many of them I took a bite out of and decided the best place for them was the trash can.

And truthfully, these both made too many sacrifices to be enjoyable.

First off, let's talk about the ingredients. The ingredient list here is much longer than with premium ice cream.

You have everything from added protein to monk fruit extract to stevia. None of those have ever hit my palate and made me say yum. In fact, these items tend to stand out on my palate with that not so fabulous after-taste.

And then there is the ability to scoop here. In a regular freezer, these will be rock hard. You'll have to wait a bit for this to come up to a temperature where you can scoop it.

Trader Joe's Joe Joe's Cookies & Cream Light Ice Cream

If you were hoping for cookie chunks like the ones found in Trader Joe's Neapolitan Joe Joe's Ice Cream, I can assure you, that you will be disappointed. This seems to be more of cookie dust and specks than actual cookies. Otherwise, this is a pretty average light vanilla ice cream.

Trader Joe's Chocolate Peanut Butter Light Ice Cream

If you were to squirt Midnight Moo into some peanut butter, that is pretty much the flavor here. This doesn't have the mouthfeel of ice cream, but at least the after-taste of the artificial sweeteners isn't as pronounced. This really should be Peanut Butter Chocolate because it is the peanut butter that comes through and lends more mouthfeel than any of the dairies it is suspended in.

Overall

For $2.99 each, they'll save you both calories and taste since both truly taste like light ice cream. Now, these could be better utilized in a milkshake or float. But one their own, they were just average light ice creams. If you enjoy the lighter flavor of light ice cream, you'll probably enjoy these.

As for me, I'd rather sit through a gym class and enjoy ice cream the way it is meant to be enjoyed. Full fat, full flavor. I've never thought of ice cream as a healthy option. But I know people do try to save calories where they can. I'm just not sure the savings here is worth the taste.

Would I buy this again?  For me, Trader Joe's Light Ice Cream is a no. For both flavors. I'd rather use portion control on some of their premium ice creams like their Salted Caramel Gelato or perhaps the Mint Chip Ice Cream.

Dairy, Frozen, Kosher, Trader Joe's Trader Joes, Trader Joes Review

Trader Joe's Vegan Ranch Dip

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Vegan Ranch Dip

For the most part, when I want Ranch dressing or dip, I make it at home. I found a mix I really love and it only takes 2 ingredients to whip up a dip that tastes better than store-bought. It doesn't last as long as store-bought, but then I make enough that I would consume. But usually, those two ingredients are often: mayo and buttermilk. Neither are vegan-friendly items. However, when I saw people raving about Trader Joe's Vegan Ranch Dip I was curious as to how good it could be.

An unopened container of Trader Joe's Vegan Ranch Dip

Taste

How do they go about making this creamy especially now that Trader Joe's Vegan Mayo is a thing of the past? Well, this is coconut cream and canola oil. The rest are the expected herb and spice combinations that you've come to expect in a Ranch.

Now despite my expectation that this will be strongly coconut, it actually tastes quite strongly of the vinegar. It does have a bit of a bite to it.

But when you are crunching down a small plate of carrots it becomes a pleasant acidity.

However, if I'm being honest, it tasted somewhere between a cross between a ranch dip and a tartar sauce without the pickles.

I know that sounds very weird, but that is pretty much how much bite is in this.

But this becomes an interesting item. It could be used as a vegan mayo with the right pairings.

A lot of me wishes that they would pick a different oil to make some of the dips. I was hoping that this would be a keto friendly option, but sadly it isn't much like my beloved Garlic Spread.

But at the end of the day, it is a low carb vegan friendly option. It is intensely herbed and tastes very much of chives and all the other yummy herbs that go into a ranch dip.

Overall

I liked it and it was fun to try.

For $3.49 it is reasonably priced as well.

Would I buy this again? While I liked this, the vinegar was a bit too much for me. And for the calories, I'd rather reach for the Garlic Spread and Dip instead.

Trader Joe's Chicken Chilaquiles Rojo

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Chicken Chilaquiles Rojo

Every now and again, I have to clarify that I've bought some products more than once for the sake of testing them. If you buy Trader Joe's Chicken Chilaquiles Rojo, please read through my review, because I have to be honest, I wasn't loving this product the first time around. Odds are you might think badly of this product too.

Making this correctly

Because I followed the directions on the package.

Plus, I trusted that the end product would actually look like the bag.

So let's hit on a couple of key points. First, chilaquiles as a food isn't the easiest dish to take a good picture of. It just isn't a beauty contest contestant. But nonetheless, the picture on the bag looks pretty darn impressive.

But there is quite a bit of food styling that has taken place. And they certainly didn't follow the directions on the bag.

Clearly, they strained any excess liquid and styled the picture on the bag to look more like some delicious nachos. And nachos are not chilaquiles.

Now, the first time I made this, it looked like tortilla soup. The directions have you adding 4 ounces of water to the sauce while only cooking it down for 2 minutes. And 2 minutes just isn't enough time to cook down much of anything.

If you add water it will come out looking like tortilla soup. Plus, the addition of water just doesn't add any flavor.

A collage showing the different between the two batches
A quick side by side showing the difference that one step in the directions makes. One of these actually look like chilaquiles.

So, completely unimpressed with it, I nibbled on it and let the rest go. Fortunately, I had purchased a second bag. If I hadn't, it would have shifted this review totally.

As a home cook, I knew something looked way off when I was stirring in the chips.

The second time around I omitted the water. It became a totally different look and taste. It just doesn't need the added water.

By omitting the water, you end up with a thick sauce that allows the chips to maintain their texture longer. Now, as the bag hints, you'll probably want to add certain things to this dish. You might want some hot sauce because this is a mild to non-existent heat.

You might also want some added grilled chicken because the emphasis here is on tortilla chips.

Taste

If you are wondering if these tortilla chips are soggy, they're only as soggy as you let them get. If you want them crisper, then dump them in, coat quickly, and serve immediately. If you like them softer, then let them soak up the sauce a bit more.

And if you follow the directions on the bag, they'll be soggy by the time you are ready to sit down with them.

So while I was wishing for a bit more chicken, and yes a bit more cheese, all of those things are easily fixed at home.

If you are thinking about taking this for lunch, then just heat the sauce and the chicken and veggies together. Place that in a microwave-safe container and leave the chips and cheese until the last minute when you have heated up the sauce mixture.

Overall

For $4.99, your feelings on this might vary depending on how you make it. If you follow the directions on the package, you might find yourself disappointed. However, by omitting the water, you'll get something much closer to real chilaquiles. But realistically you could get 2 lunches out of this bag.

Would I buy this again? If I had only followed the directions on the package, then I would not have bought Trader Joe's Chicken Chilaquiles Rojo a second time. Because I tinkered with the directions, this is worthy of a repurchase.

Chicken, Frozen, Trader Joe's Trader Joes, Trader Joes Review

57 Chevy Cocktail Recipe: Fruity, Smooth, and Perfectly Balanced

Two finished 57 Chevy Cocktails on a wooden board

While the 57 Chevy Cocktail might sound like a vintage drink straight out of a mid-century diner, this recipe is actually a bit more modern. But don't let that fool you-the flavors are as smooth as a Sunday drive.

This cocktail blends Southern Comfort, vodka, orange liqueur, Amaretto, and pineapple juice, finished with just a splash of grenadine. The result? A drink that's tropical, balanced, and just sweet enough to keep you coming back for another sip.

What is a 57 Chevy Cocktail?

The 57 Chevy Cocktail is named after one of the most iconic cars in American history-the classic 1957 Chevrolet. Just like the car, this drink has style and smooth performance. It's fruity, fun, and carries a nostalgic punch that feels like the perfect throwback to cocktail lounges and tiki bars.

Why You'll Love This Drink

  • Retro charm with modern flavor. The name might be classic, but the flavor is timeless.
  • Perfect balance. Sweet, nutty, and citrusy with just enough kick.
  • Crowd pleaser. Fruity enough for casual drinkers yet complex enough for cocktail lovers.
  • Easy to make. No obscure ingredients or complicated prep.
  • Visually stunning. That sunset gradient from the grenadine makes it as pretty as it is delicious.

Ingredients

Vodka: Acts as the base spirit and provides a clean backdrop that lets the other flavors shine. Choose a smooth, mid-range vodka-no need to splurge on top-shelf here.

Southern Comfort: This whiskey-flavored liqueur adds warmth, sweetness, and a little spice. It's what gives the drink its signature depth and "Southern charm."

Grand Marnier (or Orange Liqueur): Adds bright citrus notes that balance the sweetness. Grand Marnier gives a richer, slightly boozy orange flavor, while Triple Sec or Cointreau offer a lighter touch.

Amaretto: A sweet almond liqueur that rounds out the drink with nutty richness. It pairs beautifully with the fruit elements, adding a smooth, dessert-like finish.

Pineapple Juice: Brings the tropical punch and ties all the flavors together. Use 100% pineapple juice for the best flavor (fresh or not-from-concentrate works best).

Grenadine: Just a splash adds a pop of color and a subtle pomegranate sweetness. It also gives the drink that "sunset in a glass" look.

Tips for Making This

Here are my best tips for making this 57 Chevy Drink:

  • Use fresh pineapple juice for a brighter, more natural flavor.
  • Chill your glass before serving to keep the drink crisp and cold.
  • Want it lighter? Add a splash of soda water or more pineapple juice.
  • Want it sweeter? Drizzle in a bit more grenadine.
