Trader Joe's Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey Review: Now My Wrist Smells Like Feelings

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey

If there was ever a Trader Joe's item that whispered you do not need this but you are still going to buy it anyway, it was the Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey. This petite rollerball kit is now discontinued, but it was one of those fun impulse buys that felt like a tiny self care moment tucked into your purse.

This was not Trader Joe's first foray into essential oils. They previously released a seasonal diffuser set that people loved. This kit followed the same vibe but in a more personal format. Four rollerballs, four moods, one very cute presentation under ten dollars.

Review

Trader Joe's Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey was a rollerball set featuring four blends named by mood rather than by scent. Instead of sniffing and guessing, you picked whatever you needed in that moment. The kit included Sleep, Awake, Relax, and Bliss, packaged in both an outer sleeve and a compact purse sized case.

It was also one of the rare TJ's beauty items that looked ready for gifting without any effort. The whole vibe was mini spa set meets stocking stuffer.

This set was cute, fun, and surprisingly moisturizing. I enjoyed three of the four scents, and the packaging made it feel more elevated than the price suggested. But it was not a must buy and did not earn a permanent spot in my routine. I used most of the Relax and Sleep oils, rarely touched Awake, and slowly worked through Bliss without rushing.

It was a novelty beauty item and a pleasant one, but not a product I found myself missing after it cycled off shelves.

Scent by Scent Breakdown

Sleep

The most successful blend in the set. Mostly lavender but with rosemary and a tiny citrus lift to keep it from smelling like a laundry room. It reminded me a little of those old Bath and Body Works pillow sprays, soft and calming without smelling synthetic. If you love aromatherapy style lavender, this was the standout.

Awake

The biggest disappointment. The bottle promised eucalyptus but delivered barely there fragrance that leaned more like plain carrier oil. If this was meant to be energizing, it was not. Anyone hoping for that spa fresh eucalyptus moment would have found this one flat.

Relax

Easily the best fragrance in the kit. Peppermint with a hint of lavender that leaned cool, clean, and soothing without crossing into candy cane territory. This one lingered the longest on the skin, about an hour, and felt the most balanced of the bunch.

Bliss

A bergamot and citrus blend that sat squarely in the middle. Pleasant but not memorable. Bergamot can skew laundry adjacent, which is not exactly bliss. It worked but did not spark joy in the same way Relax did..

Value

At nine dollars and ninety nine cents for four rollerballs, this kit was priced incredibly well. Individual essential oil rollers typically cost more than the entire set. It made a great small gift or a personal treat for aromatherapy fans who like soft fragrances rather than strong, perfume style blends.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey

The following are commonly asked questions about this product:

Is Trader Joe's Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey still available?

No, this set has been discontinued.

How long do the fragrances last?

The longevity varies by blend. Relax tends to last the longest at about an hour, Sleep lingers lightly, Bliss fades more quickly, and Awake is extremely subtle and dissipates almost immediately.

What scents are included in Trader Joe's Mood Odyssey?

The set contains four rollerball blends. Sleep is a lavender based blend with light herbal notes, Relax has peppermint and lavender, Bliss leans bergamot with a hint of citrus, and Awake is a subtle eucalyptus based fragrance.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Aromatherapy Mood Odyssey was a sweet little rollerball kit with a mix of hits and misses. Sleep and Relax delivered the most memorable scents, Bliss was fine, and Awake never really woke up. If this ever returned, I would still call it a fun giftable item rather than an essential beauty buy.

For its price, presentation, and overall calming vibe it was enjoyable, even if not a repeat purchase for me.

Trader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix with Icing Review: Serious A Peel

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix

Trader Joe's knows how to do citrus, and anyone who has ever baked their Meyer Lemon Cake Mix knows it has a loyal fan base for a reason. So when they released the seasonal Blood Orange Cake Mix with Icing, I was excited to see if this one would follow in the same bright, citrusy footsteps. A boxed mix is one of the easiest ways to get a reliable loaf without breaking out the precision tools, and citrus cakes almost always feel like a little burst of sunshine during the winter months.

This mix promises a blood orange loaf with a matching icing, and the aroma alone hits you the moment you mix the batter.

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

rader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix with Icing comes with two separate packets: a cake mix and a powdered icing mix. Everything is clearly labeled, although the print is small, so you may want to take a beat to double check which is which.

To make the loaf, you only need butter, eggs, and water. As soon as the liquid hits the bowl, the scent of blood orange fills the kitchen. It is strong in the best way, bright, citrusy, and unmistakable.

The batter comes together easily and does not require any special equipment. A bowl, a beater, and a loaf pan are all you need. The directions are accurate, but like most quick breads, your bake time will depend on your oven. Mine was not done at the forty five minute mark and needed close to fifty five minutes before a toothpick came out clean.

What comes out of the oven is a dense, pound cake style loaf. This is not a light, fluffy cake. It is rich, tight crumbed, slightly buttery, and leans heavily on the blood orange flavor. The taste is pleasant, subtly sweet, and has that slight grapefruit note that blood oranges are known for. The citrus is strong without being bitter, which makes it a nice winter loaf.

The icing is where things get interesting. Mixed with softened butter and just a small amount of water, it becomes a thicker frosting style icing with an even stronger blood orange punch. The flavor is bright and sweet, and it elevates the loaf. But the icing can be finicky. Add too much water and it separates or becomes thin and runny. Add the water slowly and stop before it looks too loose. Once you overdo it, you cannot take it back.

Texture wise, the icing is smooth and creamy and pairs well with the dense loaf. A light drizzle turns the loaf into a more polished dessert, while a thicker spread gives it a bakery style finish.

Overall, the cake was good. It baked correctly, tasted like blood orange, and offered a pleasant citrus twist without being too sweet. But it did not wow us. It was enjoyable, and every slice was eaten, but it did not reach "must buy again" status the way the Meyer Lemon version has.

For three dollars and sixty nine cents, it is a fun seasonal change of pace, but not something I would reach for year after year.

Trader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix nutritional information and ingredients

Making the cake

The cake mix only requires a few ingredients: butter, water, and eggs. Once the liquid got added to the smell of the blood orange came right through.

No major kitchen equipment is really needed other than a mixing bowl, a beater, and a loaf pan. Yes, you'll need a cake tester so even a toothpick would work here.

Directions were pretty much accurate but you'll want to test the cake before removing it from the oven.

I checked at 45 minutes and it still needed additional time. Mine ended up needing closer to 55 minutes.

Directions for preparing Trader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix

Serving Suggestions

  • Turn leftover slices into a citrus trifle
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
  • Pair with afternoon tea or coffee
  • Add candied orange peel on top for texture
  • Drizzle with dark chocolate for a winter dessert

Yes, it has a strong citrus flavor with a slight grapefruit note typical of blood oranges.

Is the cake light or dense?

It bakes into a dense pound cake style loaf.

How much does it cost?

Three dollars and sixty nine cents per box.

Is it seasonal?

Yes. It typically appears during the winter citrus season and may not return every year.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Blood Orange Cake Mix with Icing is a solid seasonal offering that delivers a bright citrus flavor and an easy baking experience. The loaf is dense and satisfying, the icing adds a nice punch of extra sweetness, and the whole house fills with a lovely orange aroma. It is a fun change from the usual boxed mixes and a good addition if you love citrus desserts. While it did not become a new favorite for me, it is worth trying at least once if you want something different from the regular lineup.

Trader Joe’s Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter Review: Fast, Flavorful, and Surprisingly Fresh

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter

Need a dinner shortcut that feels fancy but takes less than 20 minutes to make? Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter is a refrigerated, ready-to-cook protein option that promises a balanced, buttery flavor and juicy salmon filets-no prep work required.

Priced at $4.99, this mini-meal kit includes two raw salmon filets and pre-portioned lemon herb butter you simply place on top before baking.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

When I first saw this in the refrigerated case, I was skeptical. Pre-prepped seafood can go wrong in so many ways-fishy smell, bland seasoning, or uneven cooking. But Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter surprised me in the best way.

The packaging is simple: two boneless salmon filets with two discs of compound butter. Once you open the pack, the salmon actually looks fresh-not gray, slimy, or uneven like some pre-packaged options. The lemon herb butter smells citrusy and garlicky, with a nice hit of dill and parsley.

I baked the filets at 400°F for about 15 minutes, and the butter melted beautifully over the salmon, basting it as it cooked. The result? Flaky, juicy salmon with a bright, buttery sauce that felt way fancier than the effort required. No additional seasoning needed-just pop it in the oven and go.

Flavor-wise, this leans herby and citrus-forward. The butter isn't heavy, and the lemon helps cut through the richness of the fish. It's the kind of meal that works just as well for a quick weeknight dinner as it does for guests if you dress it up with sides.

One tip: be sure not to overcook it. I pulled mine just as it hit 145°F, and it was perfect. If you go longer, it'll dry out fast.

Would I buy this again? Absolutely. It's a solid "just add a side" meal that makes it easier to eat well without a lot of fuss.

Ingredients & Nutritional Facts

  • Atlantic salmon (farm-raised)
  • Lemon herb butter (butter, lemon juice, garlic, parsley, dill, salt, pepper)

Air Fryer Directions for Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter

What you'll need:

  • Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter (2 filets)
  • Parchment paper or foil (optional for easier cleanup)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Remove the salmon and butter from the packaging.
  3. Place each filet skin-side down in the air fryer basket (use parchment if your basket isn't nonstick).
  4. Top each filet with one disc of the lemon herb butter.
  5. Air fry at 375°F for 9 to 11 minutes, depending on thickness.
  6. Check for doneness at the 9-minute mark. The salmon should reach an internal temperature of 145°F and flake easily with a fork.
  7. Let rest for 1-2 minutes before serving. Spoon any melted butter from the bottom of the basket over the filets for extra flavor.

Tips:

  • Avoid overcrowding the basket so air can circulate evenly.
  • If the butter starts to brown too quickly, loosely cover the filets with foil for the last 2-3 minutes.
  • Add lemon slices or a sprig of dill before cooking for extra presentation.

Serving Suggestions

  • Finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon for added brightness
  • Pair with Trader Joe's Brown Rice and roasted asparagus
  • Serve with a citrus arugula salad and crusty bread
  • Add to pasta with a drizzle of the melted herb butter
  • Flake into grain bowls or top with Trader Joe's Truffle Aioli

FAQs about Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter

The following are commonly asked questions about this product:

Is this salmon wild-caught or farm-raised?

It's farm-raised Atlantic salmon, which is labeled on the package.

Is the butter already seasoned?

Yes, the lemon herb butter includes garlic, parsley, dill, and lemon juice.

Can I freeze it?

Technically, yes, but for the best texture and flavor, it's better cooked fresh from the fridge.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter is one of those hidden gems in the refrigerator case. It's fresh-tasting, foolproof, and delivers a restaurant-quality meal with almost no effort. If you're short on time but want something that feels elevated, this is a smart pickup.

It's not reinventing the wheel, but it does make eating more seafood feel a whole lot easier-and a lot more delicious.

Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts Review: Do These Clean Up or Crack Under Pressure?

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts on a dark surface

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Every teacher knows there are certain words you just never say in a middle school classroom unless you want instant giggling. The name "soap nuts" absolutely belongs on that list. Even as a fully grown adult, I still snickered when I first saw the bag sitting in the Trader Joe's cleaning aisle. Naturally, I had to buy them.

Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts were marketed as a greener, more natural alternative to traditional detergents. No dyes, no fragrance, no liquids to spill. Just dried berries that look like nuts and act like soap when you toss them in the washing machine. If you have never used soap nuts before, the concept feels like a gimmick. But they are very real, and they have a loyal following among people who prefer natural cleaning products.

An unopened bag of Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts on a dark surface
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

Note: Trader Joe's has discontinued these Laundry Soap Nuts, but this updated review remains available for readers who want information about the product, how it worked, and whether soap nuts in general are worth using.

Let's start with what these actually are. Despite the name, soap nuts are not nuts. They are dried berries from the Sapindus genus, commonly known as soapberries. The variety Trader Joe's sold came from Sapindus Mukorossi, a species native to Northern India. Each dried berry has a naturally occurring compound called saponin. When the berry gets agitated in warm water, saponin releases and behaves like soap.

Trader Joe's bag included two small muslin bags. You add four or five soap nuts into the bag and toss it into the washer. Each cluster can be reused three or four times before being replaced. After every wash, the nuts looked more broken down and soft, but they never completely dissolved. Once they turned grey and squishy, it was time for a fresh set.

I wash most of my clothes on warm, and none of my typical loads involve excessive dirt or stains beyond a standard food spill. Under these conditions, the soap nuts did a surprisingly decent job. Clothing came out clean, with no residues. There was no scent added to the laundry, which will be a dealbreaker for anyone who lives for the classic Tide smell. The only scent I detected was a slightly nutty aroma from the bag itself after each wash, but nothing that transferred to fabric.

In the name of curiosity, I tossed in a very dirty potholder. The potholder did not come out fully clean, which did not shock me. Soap nuts are best for lightly soiled laundry and will never replace a strong detergent for kid messes, dirt, or heavy stains. I would never use them on my son's kindergarten clothing. Pretreating stains remains absolutely necessary.

But for regular laundry, they worked. They are environmentally friendly, naturally biodegradable, and safe for people with nut allergies since the product is botanically a berry. They are also fragrance free and gentle for people with sensitivities.

For five dollars and ninety-nine cents, the bag contained enough soap nuts to run many loads of laundry. In terms of cost per load, they were comparable to a large container of detergent from Costco. The tradeoff is cleaning power. They simply do not match conventional detergents for heavily soiled items. For general clothing, they are fine. For stains, dirt, and anything involving a five-year-old, you will want something stronger.

Directions for Better Results

Use warm water
Soap nuts activate more easily and release more saponin.

Add baking soda or washing soda
Helps when washing towels or odor prone fabrics.

Use vinegar in the rinse cycle
Boosts softness and helps remove any remaining residue.

Pretreat stains
Kids clothes, workout clothes, and spills still need stain remover.

Three of Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts out of the bag

FAQs about Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts

The following are commonly asked questions about this product:

Are soap nuts safe for people with nut allergies?

Yes. Soap nuts are actually berries, not nuts, so they are safe for people who avoid tree nuts or peanuts.

Do soap nuts work in cold water?

They work best in warm or hot water. Cold water does not release saponin as effectively.

How many washes can you get out of one set of soap nuts?

Typically three to four washes per set, depending on water temperature and load size.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Laundry Soap Nuts were one of the quirkiest and most natural cleaning products the store ever sold. They were affordable, environmentally friendly, and effective for lightly soiled laundry. They were never meant to compete with strong detergents, and once you understand that, they make sense. Although they are discontinued, soap nuts remain a popular option outside Trader Joe's and can be worth exploring if you want a fragrance-free, low-waste laundry routine. They fit nicely into a rotation if you want to cut back on detergent use but still need something stronger for heavily soiled items. While this item has been discontinued, Trader Joe's still offers another eco-friendly laundry product: lavender dryer bags.

Trader Joe's Breaded Fried Ravioli Review: That’s What Cheese Said

Trader Joe's Breaded Fried Ravioli

If you ever wondered what would happen if ravioli decided it no longer wanted to sit politely under a layer of marinara and instead wanted to roll around in breadcrumbs and live its best mozzarella stick life, this was the product for that moment. Trader Joe's Breaded Fried Ravioli took the cozy comfort of stuffed pasta and dressed it in a crispy coating that whispered snack time instead of dinner time. It was the ravioli equivalent of skipping the dining table and heading straight for the appetizer platter, and honestly, I respected that energy.

Trader Joe's Breaded Fried Ravioli
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

These ravioli came fully cooked and frozen, shaped like little square pillows with a thick breadcrumb coating. Heating them in either the oven or the air fryer gave them the best possible chance to shine. Out of the oven, they were golden and crunchy. Out of the air fryer, they became even crispier, almost audibly so.

The crunch was the selling point. You got that satisfying bite that rides the line between fried comfort food and freezer aisle nostalgia. The breadcrumb coating stayed intact without turning greasy, which is not something every frozen snack can brag about.

Inside, the five cheese blend was creamy and mild. Nothing fancy or dramatic, but reliably comforting. Think more along the lines of a mozzarella stick dressed up in ravioli clothing than a restaurant-style cheese filling. Some ravioli were cheesier than others, and every once in a while one would burst open during heating and ooze dramatically onto the tray. That did not bother me. This was snack food, not couture.

Flavor wise, these leaned mild, which meant dipping sauce was not optional. Marinara made them taste like a snack shack classic. Vodka sauce added richness. Ranch worked far better than it had any business doing. If you skipped the sauce, you missed half the fun.

Overall, these were not life-changing, but they were satisfying in a very specific way. They hit the craving for something crunchy, cheesy, and easy, especially on nights when you need the kind of appetizer that makes zero demands of you. Their biggest flaw is that they are no longer on shelves. If you are looking for alternatives for a solid appetizer, then check out my best frozen appetizer list.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Breaded Fried Ravioli

The following are commonly asked question about this product:

Are these fried?

Yes, they're fully cooked and fried before freezing. You just need to reheat.

Can I microwave them?

Technically yes, but they'll lose all their crispy charm. Oven or air fryer is the way to go.

Are they vegetarian?

Yes. No meat, just a cheese blend inside.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Breaded Fried Ravioli are crispy, cheesy, and built for dipping. They're not fancy, but they're fun. And sometimes that's exactly what you want. With a crunchy coating and a gooey cheese center, they deliver snack satisfaction with minimal effort. Add a solid dipping sauce, and these ravioli will steal the appetizer table.
