Trader Joe's Vegan Cookies and Cream Bon Bons

Trader Joe's Vegan Cookies and Cream Bon Bons unopened

If you are a fan of Trader Joe's frozen desserts then you are not alone. There are so many good items to choose from. Now Trader Joe's is looking to be far more inclusive in some of their desserts because this vegan dessert is based on the popular Vanilla Ice Cream Bon Bons that this grocery chain has been on shelves for years.

So since Trader Joe's tested a vegan mint bon bon over the past holiday season they decided to make a far less seasonal flavor available.

Trader Joe's Vegan Cookies and Cream Bon Bons unopened

The packaging

So these bon bons are like opening a little present. It starts with the basic box that we all expect from the frozen foods. But within the box is a gift-like plastic wrapper that conceals the plastic shell that protects these little domes of non-dairy ice cream and keeps the outer shell as round as possible without cracks.

Here is what it the product looks like outside the box:

Trader Joe's Vegan Cookies and Cream Bon Bons out of the box with the extra layer of packaging.
Is the pretty plastic really that necessary? If you are environmentally conscious perhaps not.

The taste

So how good can a dairy-free and plant-based option be? So starting from the outside the shell is very good. It is thin and crisp. Just the way you would hope for any well-made ice cream bar. The dark chocolate is a nice contrast to the filling.

For me, the non-dairy ice cream is where these had their downfall. This had the texture of real ice cream, but the taste was so muted. It didn't scream cookies in and cream. In fact, I was missing the cookie bottom that the regular bon bons have.

Heck, I was missing any semblance of a cookie. Mine was sorely lacking. If you had told me they were just plain I probably wouldn't have noticed.

It didn't taste much like vanilla either. There was a mild coconut flavor that came through but nothing that was overly assertive or concentrated.

Comparing two bon bons

So if vegan is a must, then you'll need to reach for these. Otherwise, how do these compare with Trader Joe's Vanilla Bon Bons?

Here is where they are similar:

  • Both are frozen bon bons
  • Both contain wheat so if you have an allergy these aren't gluten-free.
  • Both are solid choices as frozen desserts
  • Portion control is good on each dessert

Here is where they are different:

  • The regular ice cream bon bons are smaller but a dozen come in a package. The vegan option only contains six but they are larger in size overall.
  • The cookie bottom was a highlight for me on the regular variety
  • Neither one of these desserts will ever match the truly sublime nature of Trader Joe's Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches which are still my top pick in the dessert aisle if you are looking for something ice cream based.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do Trader Joe's Vegan Cookies and Cream Bon Bons cost?

These are priced at $3.99 and six come in a package.

Are they gluten-free?

The ingredients mention in this product contains wheat.

Are they nut-free?

The allergy information indicated it may contain traces of almonds.

Where can I buy these?

These are only available at Trader Joe's. They are located in the frozen dessert section.

Overall

For $3.99 these weren't bad. But they aren't a must-buy or must-try. There are a lot of new treats hitting shelves in the frozen aisle so there are plenty of other desserts that might be worth your attention.

However, if you feel limited because this is vegan, then these are perfectly fine desserts.

Would I buy this again? For me, Trader Joe's Vegan Cookies and Cream Bon Bons are a one-time purchase.

Trader Joe’s Ube Tea Cookies Review: Tiny, Purple, and Packed with Flavor

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Ube Tea Cookies

Ube-the vibrant purple yam beloved in Filipino desserts-has made its way into Trader Joe's snack aisle again, this time in the form of tea cookies. These Trader Joe's Ube Tea Cookies are small, crumbly, and eye-catching with their bold lavender hue. Sold in a 6-ounce resealable pouch for $4.49, they're an affordable way to try this trendy flavor.

But are they more than just pretty and purple?

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Ube Tea Cookies
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

These cookies are adorable. There's no denying that. Bite-sized and powdery like a classic shortbread or wedding cookie, they look festive enough for a tea party and bright enough for an Instagram post. But as with many ube-inspired snacks, I was curious to see if the flavor would hold up.

Texture-wise, these are soft, crumbly, and melt-in-your-mouth with a sandy, buttery consistency. If you've ever had Mexican wedding cookies or Russian tea cakes, you'll find the texture familiar.

Flavorwise, they're more subtle than you might expect. The ube flavor is present but delicate-a bit nutty, slightly earthy, and gently sweet. It's not overwhelming or artificial, which I appreciated. However, if you're new to ube or expecting bold, jammy yam flavor, these might come off as just "lightly sweet cookies."

One thing I did like was how balanced they felt-not overly sweet, and with a rich, buttery base. They're great with coffee or tea, and the resealable pouch makes them easy to portion out. That said, the powdered sugar coating can get messy, so maybe don't eat these while wearing black.

Overall, I'd call these a fun seasonal novelty. They won't be everyone's favorite, but if you enjoy shortbread cookies or have a soft spot for ube, they're worth trying.

Ingredients

The following are main ingredients for this:

  • Wheat flour
  • Butter
  • Powdered sugar
  • Ube puree
  • Natural flavors
  • Cornstarch
  • Salt

Contains: wheat, milk
May contain traces of egg, soy, and tree nuts.

How to Enjoy

  • Pair with hot tea or a light roast coffee
  • Serve on a dessert platter with other ube treats
  • Crumble over vanilla ice cream
  • Enjoy straight from the bag as a midday snack
  • Use as a cookie base for a no-bake crust

FAQs about Trader Joe's Ube Tea Cookies

The following are commonly asked questions about this pruduct:

What does ube taste like?

Ube has a slightly nutty, vanilla-like flavor that's mildly sweet and earthy. These cookies feature a gentle version of that flavor.

Are these cookies very sweet?

No-they're sweetened, but the powdered sugar coating is the main source of sweetness. The cookie itself is more buttery than sugary.

Are Trader Joe's Ube Tea Cookies gluten-free?

No, they contain wheat flour.

Are these cookies seasonal?

Yes, they typically show up during spring or summer as part of Trader Joe's rotating ube product line. If you can't find them in store, they are available through third-party sellers on Amazon.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Ube Tea Cookies are a fun, seasonal twist on a traditional shortbread cookie. They may not hit as hard on flavor as some ube desserts, but the texture, presentation, and snackability are all solid. If you like buttery cookies and subtle sweetness-or just want to add a pop of purple to your snack drawer-these are worth tossing into your cart.

Trader Joe’s Fresh Atlantic Salmon Review: Weeknight Staple or Splurge?

Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon package

Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon is one of those fridge section items that's easy to overlook, but if you're aiming to eat more protein, cook at home, or skip another takeout order, it might just become a go-to. Sold in vacuum-sealed packs in the refrigerated section, it's portioned into filets and ready for whatever marinade or seasoning you throw at it.

The price per pound usually runs around $9.99, and the packaging makes it clear that it's farm-raised.

Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon package
Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon is sold in as both boneless fillet (pictured) and BBQ Cut (not pictured), skinless is a dollar more per pound at $10.99
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

Let's start with this: if you're looking for wild-caught salmon with that deep orange hue and bold flavor, this isn't it. Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon is farm-raised and milder in flavor, but it still checks a lot of boxes if you're shopping for convenience and flexibility.

When I opened the package, I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and fresh the filets looked. No strong fishy smell, no discolored spots, and no extra trimming needed. For something pre-packaged and sold alongside pre-marinated proteins, it gave off a fresher vibe than expected.

Once cooked, the salmon held together well. I've prepared it in the air fryer, oven, and on the stovetop-and it flaked beautifully each time. It's tender, moist, and not overly fatty, which can sometimes happen with lower-quality farm-raised salmon.

As for flavor, it's on the mild side. It's a great blank canvas, which I appreciate when I want to get creative with marinades or spice rubs. I've done a maple-soy glaze, a simple lemon-dill butter, and even just salt and pepper, and it worked every time. If you want a strong salmon flavor, this might be too subtle. But if you're cooking for a family or trying to introduce someone to salmon, this is a solid entry point.

Is it the best salmon I've ever had? No. But for the price, convenience, and reliability. It's definitely something I'll keep buying.

Ingredients

  • Farm-raised Atlantic salmon
  • Vacuum-sealed for freshness

Contains: fish (salmon) with color added

FAQs about Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon

The following are commonly asked questions about this product:

Is Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon wild-caught?

No, it is farm-raised and clearly labeled as such.

Is it skin-on or skinless?

Most packages include skin-on filets, which get nicely crispy when pan-seared or air fried.

How long does it last in the fridge?

Check the sell-by date, but typically 2-3 days. If you're not using it right away, it freezes well.

Does it have a strong fishy taste?

No, the flavor is mild and approachable.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Fresh Atlantic Salmon isn't the most exciting product in the store, but it's one of the most practical. If you're looking for an easy-to-cook protein that doesn't take much prep and plays well with almost any seasoning, this is it. While it's not wild-caught or packed with flavor out of the package, the value and convenience make it a strong repeat buy for home cooks who want something reliable.

This salmon might not win awards, but it earns a permanent spot in my fridge.

Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce Review: Sauce & Gyoza: A Match Dipped in Heaven

Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce bottle

Dump sauce on it? More like dip, dunk, and fall in love (or maybe not). Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce promises flavor fireworks for everything from potstickers to stir-fries.

Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce bottle
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

This sauce comes in a 10-ounce glass bottle (around $2.49). It starts with a soy sauce and rice vinegar base, then adds sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, chives, crushed red pepper, and you guessed it: cilantro. The result is a thicker texture than plain gyoza sauce, with a balanced mix of salty, sweet, umami, and a hint of heat.

Trader Joe's knows how to sauce things up, and this bottle of Gyoza Dipping Sauce comes ready to flirt with your freezer stash of potstickers. But whether it's a flavor bomb or a bust depends on your feelings about one tiny herb: cilantro.

et's start with what it gets right: the flavor is bold. It's salty in a soy sauce kind of way, tangy from the vinegar, and the garlic and ginger give it depth. There's just enough sesame oil to make it feel rich and restaurant-worthy. The red pepper adds a slow, gentle heat that creeps up just as you go in for another dip.

It coats dumplings beautifully without drowning them. It also plays nicely with noodles, stir-fry, grilled meat, and even roasted veggies.

Now, the cilantro. If you're on team cilantro, you're going to love it. But if you're one of the many who taste soap instead of herbaceous goodness, this sauce will ruin your day. It's not just a background flavor, it's right up front and center.

Another thing to note: it's salty. Like, really salty. A little goes a long way, especially if you're pairing it with already-seasoned food. That said, it does the job and makes even the blandest frozen dumplings feel fancy.

Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce nutritional and ingredient information.

How to Serve

  • Dip your gyoza, shu mai, or even soup dumplings right into it
  • Drizzle over stir-fried vegetables or rice
  • Use as a marinade for tofu, chicken, or shrimp
  • Add to noodles for a quick sauce with kick
Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce description

FAQs about Trader Joes Gyoza Dipping Sauce

The following are commonly asked questions about this product:

What should I pair Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce with?

Wondering what to pair this with? You can always reach further into the frozen aisle and reach for Pork Gyoza, Chicken Gyoza, Shrimp Spring Rolls, Pork Shu Mai, and yes even if you don't like the sauce packet that comes in the chicken Shu Mai then this is a good alternative.

What's the difference between this and soy sauce?

Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce is a soy based sauce with the added flavors of sugar, rice vinegar, cilantro, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic among other flavors

What else can I use this product for aside from dipping?

This would make for a good marinade as well as adding to a stir fry.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Gyoza Dipping Sauce is bold, flavorful, and a must-have if you're building an at-home dumpling night. It pulls triple duty as a dip, dressing, and marinade, with strong ginger and garlic notes that make everything tastier. But if cilantro isn't your thing, consider this your warning. Otherwise, dunk away.

Trader Joe's Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake

Trader Joe's Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake in an unopened box

Lots of new items are now found in the freezer section of Trader Joe's. There is a new vegan bolognese pasta (not just the sauce which is new too), there are Portuguese custard tarts, and this very unsuspecting Trader Joe's Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake.

Trader Joe's Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake in an unopened box

Taste

No weird flavors here. Strawberry swirl cheesecake in its most simple form.

There are no strawberries mixed into the cheesecake itself. Rather the topping seems a bit more like strawberry jam swirled on top before baking.

It is a pretty cheesecake and I'll be honest, I wished the packaging made this stand out a bit more from all the other freezer yummies.

But out of the box, there is a very presentable cheesecake: no cracks with enough strawberry to not overwhelm.

There is a crust made from graham crackers at its base. The cheesecake filling is nice, smooth, and has the pleasant sweetness that sweetened cream cheese should have.

The rest of the cheesecake is basic cheesecake. Well done and pleasantly dense. This isn't quite as light as say a cheesecake from Juniors.

The swirl adds a little something extra but this doesn't overwhelm in terms of strawberry flavor.

And let's face it: this is a pretty cheesecake. The flavor is solid and would be lovely to bring to someone's home. Or have people over. Like Golden Girls and talk about your problems.

All you need to prepare this is to give it time to defrost.

The packaging

My biggest issue was the packaging. It is so blah and doesn't really make you want to pick this item up. The box is also a pain to open as well. I felt like I was going to mess up the cheesecake in an effort to get this very glued-together box open.

Within the box, the cheesecake is shrink-wrapped in plastic.

Overall

Otherwise, if you are looking for a solid dessert, nothing exotic but one that is very reasonably priced at $7.99, this is a solid buy.

Would I buy this again? If I were having company over then I would keep a Trader Joe's Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake on hand just in case.
