Trader Joe's Marula Oil Cream Cleanser Review: Clean and Marula Soft

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Marula Oil Cream Cleanser on a pink surface.

Trader Joe's quietly added a Marula Oil Cream Cleanser to its skincare lineup and if the packaging looks familiar, that is intentional. It matches the wildly popular marula oil that many shoppers considered a reasonably priced alternative to higher end options.

This cleanser feels like Trader Joe's is taking another swing at the same audience. It closely resembles the Drunk Elephant Mello Marula Cream Cleanser, which contains 1.0 percent colloidal oatmeal. Trader Joe's even alludes to this comparison directly on its website by referencing a thirty six dollar product. The difference here is the price point and accessibility.

Review

Trader Joe's quietly dropped a Marula Oil Cream Cleanser and if the packaging looks familiar, it should. It mirrors the fan favorite marula oil that many shoppers (myself included) viewed as a reasonably priced dupe for Drunk Elephant's version. This new cleanser feels like Trader Joe's took notes again, because it reads like a very close cousin to Mello Marula Cream Cleanser which features 1.0 percent colloidal oatmeal. Trader Joe's even hints at this directly in its website description by pointing out that a similar cleanser retails for thirty six dollars.

The good news is that this one performs well. I used it in my nightly shower routine and it left my skin feeling soft rather than tight. My face felt clean, hydrated, and comfortable which is not always the case with cream cleansers. It is not moisturizing enough to skip a follow up product, but it sets a nice base before adding serums or moisturizer. There is almost no detectable fragrance which will make a lot of people very happy.

The texture is creamy without being greasy. It spreads easily, rinses clean, and does not leave behind film or heaviness. If you are used to foaming or gel cleansers, this will feel different, but in a way that leans soothing instead of slippery. I found the colloidal oatmeal effect noticeable in the way my skin felt immediately after rinsing which is where the softness came through most clearly.

Overall, this is one of the more promising skincare drops from Trader Joe's in a while. It feels thoughtfully formulated, gives gentle hydration, and plays well under the rest of a nighttime routine. If you enjoyed the marula oil or simply want a cleanser that does not strip your skin, this is worth picking up. I'm absolutely adding this product to my Best of Trader Joe's Beauty. This is an affordable find that performs well.

Ingredients in Trader Joe's Marula Oil Creeam Cleanser.

It is a dupe? Trader Joe's vs Drunk Elephant

Trader Joe's is not shy about the inspiration here. The ingredient list on the new Marula Oil Cream Cleanser bears a striking resemblance to that of the Drunk Elephant Mello Marula Cream Cleanser, and the overlap is hard to miss. Both formulas rely on a gentle surfactant blend, marula oil, colloidal oatmeal, and a mix of fatty acids, amino acids, and supporting plant oils.

Here is what stands out when you look at the ingredients side by side.

Shared Key Ingredients

Both cleansers share a long list of core ingredients including:

  • Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and Cocamidopropyl Betaine as the main cleansing agents
  • Marula oil as the signature emollient
  • Colloidal oatmeal for soothing and softness
  • Evening primrose oil, chia seed oil, coconut oil, and rosehip oil
  • Cetearyl alcohol for structure and creaminess
  • A blend of amino acids like alanine, arginine, glycine, valine, and serine
  • Vanilla extract and marshmallow root extract
  • Triglycerides and glyceryl stearate for slip and hydration

This overlap suggests that Trader Joe's aimed for the same feel and function: a gentle cream cleanser that comforts the skin rather than stripping it.

Where Trader Joe's Differs

Trader Joe's formula includes a few additions that do not appear in the Drunk Elephant version:

  • Helianthus annuus sunflower seed oil
  • Rosemary leaf extract
  • Aspartic acid listed higher on the list
  • Coconut oil placed slightly later in the ingredient order
  • A slightly broader range of surfactants including coco glucoside and sodium methyl cocoyl taurate

These changes mostly influence texture, spreadability, and rinsability. They do not fundamentally shift the product away from its inspiration.

Where Drunk Elephant Differs

Drunk Elephant includes a few ingredients not found in the Trader Joe's formula:

  • Coconut acid as an additional cleansing and emulsifying agent
  • Sodium isethionate, palmitic acid, stearic acid, and sodium carbonate
  • Sodium benzoate as a preservative

These additions contribute to the specific creaminess and lather profile of the Drunk Elephant formula but do not meaningfully change the overall cleansing experience.

The Big Picture

Both cleansers are built on nearly identical foundations. They use the same cleansing system, the same hero oils, and the same soothing agents. Trader Joe's uses a few additional plant extracts and slightly different supporting surfactants, but the overall experience is remarkably similar.

The price difference is the real standout. Drunk Elephant's cleanser retails for around thirty six dollars. Trader Joe's version costs a fraction of that and still delivers a soft, hydrated, non tight feel after cleansing.

If you liked the idea of a gentle marula based cream cleanser but did not want to splurge, this Trader Joe's version gets you surprisingly close.

Best Trader Joe's Skincare Pairings

  • Trader Joe's Marula Facial Oil
  • Trader Joe's Hyaluronic Moisture Boost Serum
  • Trader Joe's Daily Facial Sunscreen for daytime
  • Trader Joe's Nourish Moisturizer

These are my favorites in for a solid skin care routine.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Marula Oil Cream Cleanser

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

Is this a dupe for Drunk Elephant's Mello Marula Cleanser?

It is not marketed as a dupe, but the formulation and feel are very similar.

Does it foam?

No, this is a non-foaming cream cleanser.

Does it have a strong scent?

No, fragrance is minimal.

Would you buy it again?

Yes, this is a solid repeat purchase.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Marula Oil Cream Cleanser is a gentle, hydrating face wash that does its job well. It leaves skin soft, calm, and comfortable and feels like a thoughtful alternative to much more expensive cream cleansers. If you are looking for a cleanser that supports your skincare routine rather than fighting it, this is absolutely worth picking up.

Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli Review: Ravioli With Heart

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli on a grey surface.

Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli is proof that food can be flirty. Shaped like little pink hearts and sold just before Valentine's Day, this limited-edition pasta is as charming on the outside as it is surprising on the inside. The filling is a blend of ricotta cheese and a balsamic reduction, and yes, it works.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli on a grey surface.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

Let's be real: novelty-shaped pasta can be hit or miss. Sometimes it's all looks and no flavor. But this one? Total standout.

First off, the visual is adorable. Whether you're planning a cozy dinner for two or just a solo "treat yourself" night, these heart-shaped ravioli set the mood. But the real surprise here is what's inside. The ricotta is creamy, smooth, and rich without being overwhelming. But then you get hit with that subtle tang of the balsamic reduction and it becomes something more, something you don't expect but suddenly need another bite of. It's like the ravioli equivalent of a plot twist you didn't see coming but totally love.

I'll admit, I side-eyed the words "balsamic reduction" on a ravioli package at first. But Trader Joe's knew what they were doing. The acidity cuts through the richness of the cheese and brings balance to the dish. It's surprisingly elevated for something you picked up while grabbing snacks and a bunch of tulips.

These will maintain a pink color after cooking, but be warned. These can look a little romantic for some. They look very feminine. Almost like ladybits if you get what I'm trying to say.

Would I buy this again? Absolutely, if I could. Like most seasonal hits at Trader Joe's, these disappear faster than you can say "last-minute Valentine's dinner." So if you see them, grab a pack (or two). You'll thank yourself.

Ingredients, nutritional facts for Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli.

How to Serve

  • Want to lean into the sweet-salty balance? Try with a light honey-balsamic glaze and toasted walnuts.
  • Toss with brown butter and sage for a savory, nutty pairing.
  • Drizzle with a touch of olive oil and finish with parmesan and cracked black pepper.
Fully cooked Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli on a plate next to the original package.

Creative Uses

  • Plate them in a heart shape (you know you want to) with a pink-hued beet cream sauce.
  • Serve with arugula pesto for a fancy salad-pasta hybrid.
  • Use as a show-stopping addition to a Valentine's charcuterie board.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

Are Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli vegetarian?

Yes, they're meatless and made with a cheese-based filling.

Do they really taste good or are they just cute?

They're both. Surprisingly delicious with a balanced filling that blends creamy and tangy.

Can you freeze these?

They're sold in the refrigerated section, but if you don't plan to eat them right away, freezing is totally fine, just cook from frozen a minute or two longer.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Ricotta Cuoricini Ravioli isn't just a gimmick. It's a creamy, tangy, perfectly pink pasta that delivers more than just looks. It's a seasonal favorite that's definitely worth adding to your cart, whether you're sharing it with someone special or keeping the whole plate for yourself.

Fearless Flyer, Trader Joe's Trader Joes

Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos Review: Pour Decisions Were Made and I Liked Them

An unopened package of Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos on a pink surface.

Affogato is one of those desserts that sounds fancy but is actually very simple. Ice cream plus espresso. That is it. So when Trader Joe's introduced a boxed version with two individual servings, I was curious. On one hand, this is very easy to make at home. On the other, ordering an affogato out can feel wildly overpriced for what it is.

Trader Joe's version sits right in the middle, convenient, controlled portions, and a decent option when you want dessert without a lot of effort.

A box of Trader Joe's 2 Affogato on a pink surface.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos come two to a box and are found in the freezer section. Each serving includes a scoop of dairy free ice cream made from coconut and a packet of instant espresso. The ice cream is designed to be topped with freshly prepared espresso right before serving.

Despite being coconut based, the ice cream does not lean heavily into coconut flavor, which is a pleasant surprise.

Let us start with the ice cream. This was better than expected. The texture is creamy and smooth, and if you were not told it was dairy free, you might not guess it right away. The coconut flavor is very mild and neutral, making it passable as a regular vanilla style ice cream. That alone makes this dessert work.

The espresso is where things get slightly trickier. The package directions suggest mixing the instant coffee directly with hot water and pouring it over the ice cream. I tweaked this a bit. I made the espresso in a shot glass with hot water and the packet of instant coffee, then poured it over the ice cream. Same end result, just felt more intentional.

Flavor wise, the espresso is more bitter than I would ideally want in an affogato. It is not bad, but it is not particularly smooth either. It does the job and provides that contrast against the cold ice cream, but this is where the dessert could improve. A smoother espresso would elevate the entire experience.

Price wise, four forty nine for two desserts is more expensive than making this at home, but still far cheaper than ordering affogato at a restaurant. Calorie wise, it is also a reasonable dessert that feels indulgent without being over the top.

Overall, I liked this enough to repurchase it. It scratches the affogato itch without requiring an espresso machine or extra planning.

Nutritional facts and ingredients in Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos.

How to Serve

  • According to the directions- pour instant coffee in the middle of the well and add 1 ounce of hot water.
  • How I made this- Prepare the espresso separately and pour over the ice cream

How to Upgrade This

  • Add chocolate shavings or cocoa powder on top
  • Sprinkle with crushed biscotti
  • Add a splash of coffee liqueur for an adult version
How to prepare Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Affogatos

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

Does it taste like coconut?

No, the coconut flavor is very mild.

Is the espresso strong?

It is bitter rather than smooth, but it works.

Is it cheaper than ordering affogato out?

Yes, significantly.

Would you buy it again?

Yes, I already have.

Contents of the box of Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's 2 Affogatos are a solid, convenient take on a classic dessert. The dairy free ice cream is the standout and works surprisingly well, while the espresso does its job even if it lacks some smoothness. This is not meant to replace a perfectly pulled shot from a café, but it is a very respectable freezer version.

If you enjoy affogato and want a low-effort option that is still satisfying, this is worth trying. With a slightly smoother espresso, this would be a standout. As it is, it is a repeat buy for me.

Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs Review: Wingless Wonders

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs on a pink surface.

Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs are one of those quietly solid finds that feel perfect for parties, quick dinners, or easy snacks. These are mini sized meatballs meant for sharing, but they are flavorful enough that you will absolutely find yourself going back for more.

If you enjoy buffalo flavor but do not want something overly saucy or aggressively spicy, these strike a nice balance.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs on a pink surface.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs are found in the refrigerated case and come fully cooked. Each 12 ounce package contains about 24 mini meatballs, with six meatballs per serving. They are gluten free and made with chicken and Monterey Jack cheese, which helps keep them tender and flavorful.

They are designed to heat quickly and evenly, making them a great option for entertaining or weeknight meals.

The first thing that stood out to me was the texture. Chicken meatballs can be dry if not done well, but these are anything but. They stay juicy and tender, likely thanks to the cheese blended into the meat. The chicken itself tastes well seasoned and never chalky or bland.

The buffalo seasoning is present, but it is more of a buffalo inspired flavor rather than a full on buffalo sauce experience. Think mild to medium heat depending on your tolerance. You get warmth and tang, but not that saucy, vinegary punch you might expect from wings. If you want that classic buffalo sauce vibe, you will want to add sauce on your own.

Flavor-wise, these completely outperform Trader Joe's turkey meatballs. They also make a nice alternative to beef meatballs when you want something lighter but still flavorful. These feel party-ready straight from the package and also work well in meals.

At four twenty nine for a 12 ounce package, the price feels fair for what you get. I can easily see these becoming a regular purchase.

Nutritional facts and ingredients in Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs.

How to Serve

  • Toss with buffalo sauce for extra heat
  • Serve with celery and blue cheese or ranch dressing
  • Add to sliders with cheese and lettuce
  • Pair with mac and cheese for a buffalo chicken spin
  • Serve over rice or cauliflower rice
  • Add to a party platter with toothpicks

The No Stress Party Setup

This is the easiest way to serve these to a crowd.

  1. Heat the meatballs according to package directions
  2. Transfer to a slow cooker on warm
  3. Pour buffalo sauce over half the batch and leave the rest plain
  4. Set out ranch and blue cheese dressing
  5. Add celery sticks and toothpicks
  6. Done

Optional extras if you want to level up without trying too hard:

  • Shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack
  • Mini slider buns
  • Hot sauce for spice lovers

Quick Weeknight Formula

When you just want dinner.

  • Heat meatballs
  • Add buffalo sauce if desired
  • Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or salad
  • Drizzle with extra hot sauce, ranch, or blue cheese
  • Call it a win

FAQs about Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this product:

Are these very spicy?

No. They are mild to medium depending on your tolerance.

Are they fully cooked?

Yes, just heat and serve.

Would you buy them again?

Yes. These are a solid repeat purchase.

Do they come with sauce?

No. You will need to add buffalo sauce if you want more heat or tang.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe's Buffalo Style Chicken Meatballs are a great find. They heat beautifully, stay juicy, and bring solid buffalo inspired flavor without overpowering heat. While they are not drenched in sauce, that actually makes them more versatile for different uses.

If you are looking for an alternative to beef meatballs with more flavor than turkey, these are absolutely worth picking up. I would happily buy these again and can easily see them becoming a regular option in my fridge.
