Trader Joe's Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Stirring Spoon

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Stirring Spoon

I used to keep packets of hot cocoa in my desk drawer at work. I don't know if this is true in anyone else's workplace, but I can never predict how hot or how cold it will be in my room from day to day.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Stirring Spoon

I keep several extra sweaters for when they decide to turn the heat down for the day. Where I work, that usually means the heat seems to click off around 10AM. So by the time the afternoon rolls around I'm pretty much cold. So there are certain things beyond clothing I keep around: tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. Fortunately, I got to try this product in the comfort of my own home, but I would absolutely buy a few of these to keep in a desk drawer.

Taste

This isn't your typical Swiss Miss-style packet of sorta chocolate powder. This is actually chocolate and it is indeed double chocolate as there is both dark chocolate and milk chocolate attached to a sort of flimsy plastic spoon.

As an added bonus there are three marshmallows attached to make you feel right at home. I heated up 8 ounces of milk and followed the directions the rest of the way. Once heated the chocolate will melt in a few minutes.

Now, maybe my milk wasn't hot enough, but my chocolate wasn't 100% incorporated into my milk. Perhaps it was the milk, perhaps it was the user. In either case, while my hot chocolate had the texture of milk with some fine chocolate shavings, it was still pretty good.

This has a nice sweetness. It's not chalky like the packets either.

It was chocolatey without feeling you were drinking chocolate syrup. For $0.99 this beats a packet of the powdered stuff any day of the week.

The marshmallows were a bonus and added that classic cold-weather feel to an otherwise pleasant drink.

Overall

I'd buy this again. I might even pick up a couple as stocking stuffers. For the price, it was a nice affordable step up from a packet of the powdered hot cocoa mix that is all too often found in a desk drawer.

Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Stirring Spoon again. Something good to keep around the house or at work or perhaps for a stocking stuffer for a chocolate lover in your life.

If you're looking to add a kick of flavor to your appetizers or charcuterie boards, Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly is a must-try. This seasonal spread combines the sweetness of jelly with mild heat from peppers, making it a unique addition to your pantry. Whether you're serving it with cheese, using it as a glaze, or simply enjoying it on crackers, this jelly is a versatile and delicious treat.

My Thoughts on Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly

Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly is a vibrant, tangy spread made from a mix of red bell peppers, jalapeños, and a touch of sugar. The jelly has a semi-translucent, glossy appearance and a balanced flavor profile that starts sweet and ends with a subtle heat. It's available seasonally, so when you find it on the shelves, it's worth grabbing a jar or two.

Taste and Texture

Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly is all about contrast. The first thing you'll notice is the sweetness, which is bold and fruity, reminiscent of a classic fruit jelly. This initial sweetness is quickly followed by a gentle heat from the jalapeños, which lingers pleasantly on the palate without overpowering the other flavors.

The texture of the jelly is smooth and slightly thick, making it easy to spread over crackers, cheese, or toast. It has a glossy, almost jewel-like appearance that adds a visually appealing element to any dish. The tiny bits of red bell pepper and jalapeño suspended in the jelly provide a slight crunch, adding another layer of texture to your bite.

Overall, the balance between sweet and spicy is well-executed, making it versatile enough to pair with both savory and sweet items. Whether you prefer it on a charcuterie board or as a glaze for meats, this jelly adds a burst of flavor that's sure to impress.

How to Use Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly

This jelly's unique flavor makes it a versatile ingredient in both savory and sweet dishes. Here are some popular ways to use it:

  1. Cheese and Crackers:
The classic way to enjoy this jelly is as a topping for cheese and crackers. It pairs exceptionally well with creamy cheeses like Brie, goat cheese, or cream cheese, balancing their richness with its sweet and spicy kick.
  2. Glaze for Meats:
Use the jelly as a glaze for meats like chicken, pork, or salmon. Brush it on during the last few minutes of grilling or roasting for a glossy, flavorful finish.
  3. Sandwich Spread:
Add a dollop to your sandwiches or wraps for a burst of flavor. It's particularly good with turkey, ham, or as part of a grilled cheese sandwich.
  4. Dip for Appetizers:
Serve it as a dipping sauce for appetizers like egg rolls, spring rolls, or even fried shrimp. The sweet and spicy notes complement the savory flavors of these dishes.
  5. Enhance Dressings or Sauces:
Mix a spoonful of the jelly into salad dressings or sauces to add complexity and depth. It works well in vinaigrettes or as a sweet and spicy addition to BBQ sauce.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings

To make the most of Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly, consider these pairing suggestions:

Breakfast Companion:
Spread the jelly on warm biscuits, bagels, or toast for a spicy-sweet start to your morning.

Cheese Platter:
Pair the jelly with a variety of cheeses, such as Brie, goat cheese, or sharp cheddar, and serve with plain crackers or crostini.

Wine Pairing:
A chilled glass of Riesling or a slightly sweet Rosé complements the spicy and sweet notes of the jelly. For a non-alcoholic option, try sparkling water with a splash of cranberry juice.

Charcuterie Board:
Include the jelly on a charcuterie board with cured meats, nuts, and dried fruits. It adds a burst of flavor that enhances the overall experience. I liked mine on Trader Joe's Triple Creme Brie.

Conclusion

Trader Joe's Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly is a delightful addition to any pantry, offering a versatile blend of sweetness and heat that enhances a variety of dishes. Whether you're using it as a cheese topper, a glaze for meats, or a sandwich spread, this jelly adds a unique twist to your culinary creations. Keep an eye out for it during the holiday season, and be sure to grab a jar or two before it's gone! The biggest disappointment with this product is that it is seasonal.

Trader Joe's Gluten Free Egg Fettuccine Pasta

With a slightly chewy texture and a rich, eggy flavor, this fettuccine is perfect for anyone looking for a gluten-free alternative that still delivers the satisfaction of traditional pasta. Whether you're pairing it with a creamy Alfredo sauce or a light tomato-based dish, this pasta holds up well and adds a comforting, homemade feel to your meals.

At $3.49 for an 8-ounce package, Trader Joe's Gluten Free Egg Fettuccine offers an affordable option for gluten-sensitive individuals without skimping on quality or taste.

Trader Joe's Gluten Free Egg Fettuccine Pasta on a dark tile

Product Description

Trader Joe's Gluten Free Egg Fettuccine is made from a combination of gluten-free flours and egg, giving it a rich, slightly chewy texture that mimics traditional fresh pasta. The pasta comes in a refrigerated package and is ready to cook in just a few minutes, making it a convenient option for weeknight dinners. Whether you're gluten-sensitive or simply looking to cut back on gluten, this fettuccine offers a delicious and satisfying way to enjoy your favorite pasta dishes.

The noodles have a pale yellow color from the egg content, and they cook up beautifully, retaining their shape and texture without turning mushy, which can sometimes be an issue with gluten-free pastas.

Honest Review of Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Egg Fettuccine

Flavor: The flavor of this fettuccine is subtle but rich, thanks to the inclusion of egg in the dough. It has a slightly eggy taste, similar to traditional egg-based pastas, which adds depth to any dish. It pairs well with a variety of sauces, from hearty cream sauces to lighter, olive oil-based ones. Unlike some gluten-free pastas that have a starchy or off-putting aftertaste, this one tastes remarkably similar to regular pasta.

Texture: One of the standout features of Trader Joe's Gluten Free Egg Fettuccine is its texture. Many gluten-free pastas fall apart or become gummy when cooked, but this fettuccine holds up well. It has a nice chewiness that you'd expect from a well-made pasta, and the noodles maintain their structure without getting mushy. Whether you're twirling them around a fork or layering them into a dish, the texture is spot on.

Overall: This pasta cooks quickly and easily, making it a great choice for busy weeknight dinners. The fettuccine holds its shape well after cooking and doesn't clump together like some gluten-free pastas tend to do. It works well with a wide range of sauces, from classic Alfredo to pesto or marinara, and because of its eggy richness, it can even stand up to heartier ingredients like sausage or mushrooms.

Ingredients

Key ingredients include:

  • Gluten-Free Flours: A blend of flours, including corn, rice, and possibly others, provides structure to the pasta.
  • Egg: Adds richness and flavor, as well as helping to mimic the texture of traditional fettuccine.

  3. Use in a Pasta Bake: Layer the fettuccine with your favorite sauce, cheese, and vegetables, then bake for an easy and comforting pasta casserole.

While the portion size is on the smaller side, this pasta is a great option for anyone who needs a gluten-free meal that doesn't sacrifice flavor or texture. Whether you're making a classic Alfredo or something lighter, this fettuccine performs beautifully in any dish.
