Trader Joe's Tomato Ketchup with Black Summer Truffle Review: Ketchup Meets Couture

Trader Joe's Tomato Ketchup with Black Summer Truffle

Imagine your favorite pair of jeans suddenly tailored with Italian silk. That's what Trader Joe's Tomato Ketchup with Black Summer Truffle is a little like that. Priced at $3.49, this seasonal offering promises to elevate your condiment game. But does it deliver a truffle-infused symphony or just a fancied-up tomato paste? Let's find out.

Review

Housed in a sleek glass jar, this ketchup immediately signals its departure from the plastic squeeze bottles of yore. The label, understated yet elegant, hints at the gourmet experience within. Upon opening, a distinct earthy aroma wafts out-a prelude to the truffle undertones promised on the label.

On the palate, the ketchup presents a harmonious blend of sweet and tangy tomato base, punctuated by the unmistakable umami depth of black summer truffle. The truffle flavor is present but not overpowering, offering a sophisticated twist without alienating traditional ketchup enthusiasts. The texture is slightly thicker, adhering well to foods and providing a satisfying mouthfeel.

While not an everyday ketchup, it is a nice deviation from the regular ketchup. Most kids won't appreciate this flavor (my son firmly believes that ketchup should suffice as a vegetable at this point). But there is no shortage of other standout condiments at Trader Joe's. It is balanced without being overpowering.

For those seeking to elevate their condiment collection, Trader Joe's Tomato Ketchup with Black Summer Truffle offers a delightful twist. Its balanced flavor profile makes it versatile, and the truffle infusion provides a touch of luxury without breaking the bank. However, traditionalists may find the deviation from classic ketchup a bit jarring.

Trader Joe's Truffle Aioli Review: Fancy Flavor in a Small Jar

Trader Joe's Truffle Aoili unopened on a grey surface.

If you love the rich, earthy flavor of truffle, Trader Joe's Truffle Aioli might have already caught your eye. This spreadable condiment is tucked into the condiment section and combines a creamy, plant-based mayo-style base with the unmistakable aroma of truffle oil. Whether you're dipping fries, dressing up a sandwich, or elevating roasted veggies, this little jar adds gourmet flair to your everyday meals.

Priced at $3.99 for an 8-ounce jar, it's an affordable way to bring truffle flavor into your kitchen, especially for a vegan product.

Trader Joe's Truffle Aioli with a plate of fries.

Review

Truffle is one of those flavors people either love or avoid, and Trader Joe's version leans into it confidently. The texture is rich and smooth, similar to traditional aioli, and the flavor is unmistakably truffle-forward with garlicky undertones. Right out of the jar, it makes a bold impression with its earthy aroma. It's an aroma of love or hate. What you smell will either be inviting or overpowering.

What surprised me most was that it's entirely vegan, but you wouldn't know it based on taste or texture. It spreads beautifully, holds up well on sandwiches, and makes roasted potatoes feel fancy. While the truffle flavor is prominent, it doesn't feel artificial or overwhelming if used in moderation. It has roughly the consistency of mayo. It actually contains truffles and doesn't rely on oils to make up for the flavor.

This isn't something you'd use every day, but it's perfect for moments when you want to elevate a simple dish. At this price point, it's worth picking up at least once if you're a truffle fan.

Key ingredients include:

  • Sunflower oil
  • Water
  • White wine vinegar
  • Black truffle
  • Garlic
  • Sea salt
  • Natural flavors

Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Butter Review: The Bum Bum Dupe That Actually Delivers?

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter.

Trader Joe's body care aisle has had its fair share of hits and misses, but the Brazil Nut Body Butter quickly earned a cult following and for good reason. With rich moisturizers, a silky texture, and a scent that's nearly identical to a high-end favorite, this seasonal release has shoppers hunting it down year after year.

But is it just a dupe, or does it hold its own?

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter.
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

As someone who's tried a lot of Trader Joe's seasonal beauty products, I have to say: this one lives up to the hype. Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter feels like a little luxury in a plastic tub without the luxury price tag.

The scent hits you immediately: warm, nutty, and tropical, with notes of salted caramel, vanilla, and pistachio. Yes, it's a clear dupe of the famous Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, but at under $6 for 8 oz, it's hard to complain. In fact, it's almost eerie how close they got the fragrance profile.

The texture is rich and thick but melts into the skin without feeling greasy. I used this after shaving and on dry areas like elbows and knees, it moisturized well and left my skin feeling soft for hours.

This body butter is seasonal, so if you love it, I recommend stocking up when it's on shelves. It's an easy yes for me, and one of my favorite body care finds from Trader Joe's in recent years.

Ingredients

Key ingredients include:

  • Brazil Nut Seed Oil - Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants
  • Coconut Oil - Provides moisture and softness
  • Shea Butter - Deeply moisturizing for dry skin
  • Fragrance - Warm and sweet, similar to caramelized vanilla and pistachio

Cruelty-free. Paraben-free.
Not certified vegan.

FAQs about Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter

The following are common product questions for Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter.

Does Trader Joe's still sell body butter?

Yes, Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter is a summer seasonal variety. Year-round you can find the coconut variety instead.

How much is body butter from Trader Joe's?

Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter costs $5.99.

What does Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter smell like?

While the fragrance is mild, it does smell like pistachio and caramel. Those combined reminded me of the beach.

Other body butters

While Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter might only end up being on shelves for a little bit during the start of summer, there is a rotation of body butter if you really like them:

  • Trio of body butter (winter seasonal)
  • Pumpkin body butter (fall seasonal)
  • Grapefruit body butter (spring seasonal)
  • Coconut body butter (year-round)

All of these body butters are very similar and hydrate extremely well.

Where to buy

This might once again be a seasonal limited-run item. It appeared about the same time as last year and based on the offerings of other varieties and the fragrance of Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Body Butter it would make sense for it to be a summer seasonal variety. It is available at Trader Joe's or through third-party sellers on Amazon. Or you can look around the holiday for the latest Brazil Nut Gift Set where you can try this and other Brazil Nut themed products.

Beef, Frozen, Trader Joe's Trader Joes, Trader Joes Review

Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken

Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken package unopened.

A real dinner can be made in a reasonable amount of time. A roast is something that is easy to make but a lot of us might not even attempt it if we feel we don't have the time (or are super hungry). Well, if you can find about 30 minutes (give or take) then you can have this Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken on the table.

Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken package unopened.

The taste

Is there anything more comforting than a roast chicken? Well, I know in my household the best chicken is probably the rotisserie chicken I just brought home from Costco. Not only is that chicken cheap, its so very good.

The next best chicken is the one that you make yourself that probably costs about twice as much as that Costco chicken (if not more).

And of course one day I noticed Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken and picked it up. It had directions for grilling and baking, but no air fryer directions (don't worry, I've got you covered).

I enjoy Trader Joe's Spatcocked Chicken. They've sold a variety of flavors over the years including coffee rubbed and bbq, but the one that is available year-round is the lemon rosemary spatchcocked chicken.

The premise is basically the same, there is no spine to this bird. And this is half of a spatchcocked bird.

Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken not only has buttermilk but also vinegar and rosemary. Both flavors were present and seemed to have penetrated pretty deep into the meat.

Now, this is both good and bad. If you are no fan of rosemary then be sure to skip this product. The vinegar also has the potential to be off-putting as well because depending on how you season your bird will likely decide how much you like this.

But out of the air fryer, the skin was nice and crisp (see my directions below on that), and the meat was so very tender and well flavored.

So as long as you pick a seasoning that would lend itself well to rosemary and the tanginess of vinegar you should find this is a pretty good value. Even a basic salt and pepper mix would go well here.

Air fryer directions

Yes, I opted to make this half-bird in the air fryer.

First, take a paper towel and dry the outside of the chicken. Preheat the air fryer to 350F. Next, season as you normally would. Once your air fryer is preheated, spray the basket with cooking spray to make sure nothing sticks. Next, cook it for 10 minutes skin side up. Flip the chicken around and cook for another 10 minutes. Then return the chicken skin side up for 10 more minutes. Check the temperature with a thermometer at the thickest part of the meat. You are looking for an internal temperature of 165F. If it isn't 165F, allow it more time to cook. Remove once it reaches that temperature. Allow the chicken to rest on a plate or cutting board for at least 5 minutes before cutting or serving.

Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken fully cooked on a platter.
Yes, still plump and juicy and in less time than other methods.

Tips for preparing this

Here are my best tips for enjoying this at home:

  • Make sure you dry the skin before cooking it in order to have crispy skin at the end
  • Choose a seasoning that will pair well with the acidic taste. The next time I try this I'm going to use my Franks Red Hot Seasoning.
  • Be sure to cook to temperature and not how it looks. A safe temperature is considered 165F for chicken.

Overall

I really enjoyed the ease of making this chicken. Much like Trader Joe's Spatchcock Chicken it really does reduce the overall cooking time which is a good thing now that warmer weather is upon us. And for $4.99 per pound, this isn't a bad deal.

Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Buttermilk Brined Half Chicken again.
