Trader Joe's Vegan Meatless Meat Eater's Pizza

An unopened box of Trader Joe's Vegan Meatless Meat Eater's Pizza

Pizza is a nearly perfect food. I know so few people who dislike it. Best of all it seems that it can fit into nearly every diet out there. So Trader Joe's has done the difficult: added a plant-based meat lover's pizza to its roster of products.

And for $5.99 here is what you are getting:

A fully baked Trader Joe's Vegan Meatless Meat Eater's Pizza

The taste

Meat lover's pizza usually contains a variety of meats. In this case, the vegan meats found on this pie are pepperoni, Italian sausage, and chorizo. The chorizo and Italian sausage are basically spot-on as far as vegan meats go.

The chorizo is nice and spicy and the sausage is pretty darn close to where the real meat would be. It isn't quite the same as Trader Joe's Soy Chorizo. The spice blend is slightly different here.

The pepperoni here visually looks like thicker cut pepperoni, but the taste and texture were a bit off from where real pepperoni would be. The pepperoni is on the dry side with a big lack of the familiar mouthfeel the real stuff here. But if you just happen to bite into it without pulling it off the pizza, then it becomes more passable as the real thing.

As a native New Yorker, the most notable thing missing from this pizza is the traditional greasiness. Vegan mozzarella-style shreds can be ok but always seems to look like plastic when heated up. The taste of the

The taste worked but visually this wasn't the most covered-up pizza in the world.

I found the top of this pizza to be a bit bare and the taste of the crust and sauce were actually the primary flavors here. Not that there was much sauce like a Grandma slice, but there were gaping areas where neither cheese nor vegan meat covered the pizza and that was a shame.

Now, another complaint here might be that this isn't gluten-free either. But that being said the crust was fine.

The cooking directions were spot on to achieve a nice crispy crust. Just be sure when removing this from the oven that you place it on a rack to cool to ensure that you don't get any soggy bottomed pizza. If you place it directly from the oven to a cutting board you'll give up that crispness.

But overall, if you are dairy-free or vegan then this isn't a bad option. Even if you aren't vegan this actually wasn't a bad pie. You probably won't miss the additional greasiness that comes with many other pizzas here. But you might feel just a little weird looking at unmelted vegan cheese shreds.

The packaging

The packaging here is pretty basic. It comes in a box. The pizza is shrink-wrapped inside the box to keep the contents of the pizza just on the pizza.

Overall

While this isn't a bad choice, the pizza isn't quite as loaded as the name might lead you to believe. However, it isn't a bad bite for under $6 either. But you might want to add just a bit more vegan cheese to cover some of the gaps left here.

If you are gluten-free you'll be disappointed that this item is not gluten-free.

If you are thinking about sharing this, this is closer to two actually servings rather than what is listed on the box.

Would I buy this again? I'd consider buying Trader Joe's Vegan Meatless Meat Eater's Pizza again. While the target audience for this pizza is those who are dairy-free or vegan, I didn't feel like I was missing that much in partaking in this pizza.

Trader Joe's Hashbrowns Review: Crispy, Golden Breakfast Perfection

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Hashbrowns package from the side on a yellow background

Trader Joe's Hashbrowns are a freezer staple for anyone who loves a classic breakfast side. These crispy, golden patties are made with simple ingredients and cook up perfectly in the oven, skillet, or air fryer. Whether you're pairing them with eggs and bacon or using them as a base for creative recipes, they're versatile and easy to prepare.

At just $2.49 for a pack of 10, these hash browns offer excellent value for a breakfast favorite that's ready in minutes.

An unopened package of Trader Joe's Hashbrowns package from the side on a yellow background
There are 2 varieties of hashbrowns: this one and the shredded variety you'll have to cook up yourself.

Ingredients

Trader Joe's Hash Browns keep it simple with their ingredient list:

  • Potatoes: The star of the show, providing the classic hash brown flavor and texture.
  • Soybean/Canola Oil: Helps achieve that golden, crispy exterior.
  • Salt and Dextrose: Enhance the flavor without overpowering the natural potato taste.

The clean ingredient list ensures you're enjoying a minimally processed product that tastes homemade. This doesn't taste overly seasoned so you may have to adjust.

Trader Joe's Hashbrowns nutritional information, ingredients, and how to prepare
At the time of publishing no air fryer directions appear, however these are actually better in the air fryer.

How to Cook Trader Joe's Hashbrowns

Basic Preparation Instructions (Oven, Skillet)

  • Oven: Preheat to 400°F. Place hash browns on a baking sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
  • Skillet: Heat a small amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the hash browns for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Air Fryer Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F and let it preheat for about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Arrange the Hash Browns: Place the frozen hash brown patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Ensure they are not overlapping to allow for even cooking.
  3. Cook: Air fry at 400°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. This helps achieve an even, golden-brown crispiness on both sides.
  4. Serve: Once cooked to your desired level of crispiness, remove the hash browns from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.

Tips:

  • Avoid Overcrowding: Cooking in a single layer ensures proper air circulation and even cooking.
  • Adjust Cooking Time: Depending on your air fryer model and personal preference for crispiness, you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly.

By following these steps, you can enjoy perfectly crispy Trader Joe's Hash Browns with minimal effort.

Which method is the best? I strongly prefer the results in the air fryer, followed by the oven or skillet as long as you don't skimp on the oil.

Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole

Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole unopened

If you ever looking for a solid lunch or dinner option then there is a new addition you need to look out for Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole. While there are plenty of mediocre wraps and freezer enchiladas this vegan enchilada is truly the whole enchilada in terms of taste.

Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole fully cooked
This is what the fully cooked product Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole looks like compared to the picture on the package.

The taste

If I were blindfolded, I would not know I was eating a vegan dish. This dish has the traditional red enchilada sauce with a fine layer of cheese on it. The sauce covers without drenching the tortillas.

Inside the tortillas a pleasant amount of refried beans. There was a mix of vegetables mentioned in the ingredients but the sweet potatoes were the ones that stood out in the mix. They added a pleasant textural break from the pinto beans.

The enchilada sauce had a mild spice to it. Even with the pinto beans inside the enchiladas, there seemed to be an additional layer of vegan cheese.

If you've ever made enchiladas you know they can be time-consuming depending on how much stuff you put in them. Even keeping Trader Joe's Enchilada Sauce around you will still need additional time to get the tortillas filled and bake them.

So in place of the labor of love is this refrigerated gem. I had my sister try this too. We both came up with the same assessment: the flavor here is awesome and is vastly superior to anything in the freezer case.

This dish is literally the whole enchilada. And no, you won't miss any animal products in this. This dish does cost $5.99 so it is obviously cheaper to make this at home, but to save time I found the price to be worth it.

Best of all these are very filling and don't leave you hungry. If you can polish off this whole dish in one sitting it provides half the fiber you need in a day. Unfortunately, it also is 71% of your sodium intake as well.

The packaging

This is packaged in light cardboard outside with a tray covered in plastic. There is minimal waste here.

Overall

Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole was a pleasant surprise. I've been disappointed by the other frozen enchiladas.

Trader Joe's used to sell a red enchilada was was pretty solid but wasn't vegan. The green enchiladas are still sold and are good as well. Again, the green enchiladas weren't vegan either. This dish is just as good if not better than those.

This is actually a really outstanding dish and if you are even debating getting the frozen enchiladas I'd recommend these over any of the others.

You won't feel like you are missing anything in this dish if you are not vegan.

These are a snap to make although they taste better out of the oven rather than the microwave.

Would I buy this again? Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Vegan Enchilada Casserole again. In fact, if I can find it I'd love to make this a weekly purchase. It actually is that good.

Trader Joe’s Argentinian Red Shrimp with Ginger Garlic Butter & Togarashi Style Seasoning: A Kick of Flavor in a Flash

Trader Joe's Argentinian Red Shrimp unopened

Shrimp dinner with a side of wow? Trader Joe's is at it again-this time with their Argentinian Red Shrimp tossed in a ginger garlic butter sauce and sprinkled with togarashi-style seasoning. It's got all the makings of a weeknight hero: quick, easy, and packed with bold flavors.

Trader Joe's Argentinian Red Shrimp unopened
[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Review

Trader Joe's Argentinian Red Shrimp with Ginger Garlic Butter & Togarashi Style Seasoning comes in a nine ounce frozen package, conveniently pre-seasoned and ready to sauté. These shrimp are wild-caught off the coast of Argentina-known for their natural red hue even when raw-and are peeled and deveined for maximum convenience. Inside, you'll find a block of ginger garlic butter sauce that melts into a pool of aromatic deliciousness, plus a generous sprinkle of togarashi-style seasoning for that extra umami punch.

Opening the bag, I was greeted with bright red shrimp and a slab of golden sauce that looked ready to melt into something magical. The smell alone-ginger, garlic, and a subtle kick of spice-made my kitchen smell like a restaurant.

Flavor:
The shrimp itself is sweet and meaty, living up to its lobster-like reputation. But the real star here is the sauce. The ginger garlic butter adds a rich, savory flavor that's complemented perfectly by the togarashi-style seasoning-a blend that usually includes chili pepper, sesame seeds, and other Japanese-inspired spices. The heat level is just enough to keep things interesting without setting your mouth on fire. It's the kind of heat that invites you back for bite after bite.

Texture:
The shrimp cook up juicy and tender in about 5 minutes. Just don't overcook them, or they'll get a bit rubbery (nobody wants that). The sauce coats each piece beautifully, so every bite is loaded with flavor.

The Not-So-Great:
If you're spice-shy, the togarashi might catch you by surprise. It's not flaming hot, but it does pack a noticeable kick. Also, the sauce can be a little oily once melted, so keep some napkins handy. Also, shrimp are known for changing colors when they are cooked. These look cooked, however, they are raw. So please don't just them by their color.

Trader Joe's Strawberry Shortcake Sandwich Cookies

The unopened box of Trader Joe's Strawberry Shortcake Sandwich Cookies

If you are looking at the package of Trader Joe's Strawberry Shortcake Sandwich Cookies and think they look familiar you are correct. These are the summer seasonal variety of the popular These sprinkles walk into a sandwich cookies. So in Trader Joe's new food news, this is a new and limited-run product.

The unopened box of Trader Joe's Strawberry Shortcake Sandwich Cookies

The taste

While the cookies might remind you more of chocolate chip cookies, these butter cookies have bits of freeze-dried strawberries in them which gives them that strawberry shortcake feel.

The cookie is quite crumbly so you'll want to make sure you have a plate to catch the crumbs.

Each cookie is flaky and butter with a hint of strawberry. The strawberry filling is about as generous as a regular oreo. Not a double stuff one either. But the flavor of the buttercream is pretty good.

It does taste like strawberries. And overall this does remind me of the strawberry shortcake minus a dollop of cream and fresh strawberries. It had a nice biscuit-like cookie and a good strawberry flavor.

The packaging

This is packaged in a narrow box. A foil wrapping covers the box. The tray of cookies that are two sandwiches cookies wide.

In each box, there are three rows of cookies for a total of six cookies altogether.

The outside design of the package looks a lot like Trader Joe's seasonal Sprinkles Walk into a sandwich cookie. You can see the packing here:

An unopened box of Trader Joe's These Sprinkles Walk Into a Sandwich Cookie
This variety is also seasonal.

Overall

Overall, this box will cost you $2.99 and you get six sandwich cookies altogether. Not a bad deal. This is on par with the quality of the seasonal sprinkle sandwich cookies that are offered. It has a good strawberry flavor in both the middle and the cookie.

Would I buy this again? While I think Trader Joe's Strawberry Shortcake Sandwich Cookies is good it isn't worth a repurchase for me.

This is also a seasonal item so if you find that you really like this product then be sure to stock up.
